My friend Ian came by my house yesterday and we begun talking about Smartphones. He is an iPhone 4 user and loves it. Now of course I took the opportunity to show him my Samsung Focus and of course he was impressed. Ian told me that the reason why he loves his iPhone so much is because it is jail broken. I personally can go either way with unlocking a phone. I do see some killer features when rooting Android. However, Ian showed me what might be the best app I have ever seen on any phone platform. IGotYa is an app that can only be installed on a Jail broken iPhone. It is used to locate your phone in case of theft. Just in case some jerk wants to pretend like they don’t have your phone, IGotYa has an awesome surprise.
Ian handed me his phone and asked me to attempt a login. On screen of his iPhone was the keypad to enter in a password. I typed in some random numbers and of course l got back a wrong password message. Ian typed in his password and logged into his email. When he showed me the screen I was just amazed.
On the screen was a picture of me trying to log into the phone. The IGotYa app used the front camera on the iPhone 4 to take my picture and email it to Ian. Essentially what happens is every time a bad password is entered, the app quietly snaps a picture. Imagine being able to walk right up to the person that has your phone and tell them to give it back. If you are not ready for a fight then I do not recommend it but it’s still pretty cool. iGotYa takes the concept of identifying who has your phone to a whole new level. It includes no only a picture of the person trying to unlock your phone but also the device location, GPS and Street/City/State/Zip, and a link to Google maps. A feature like this makes it easy for law enforcement to help recover a stolen phone.
