What is the Push to Talk button for?

A lot of the newer AT&T phones has a button on the side labeled PTT. This button is used for the Push to Talk Service. It is only available if you add another 5.99 to your phone plan. This would then give you Walkie Talkie like capabilities on your phone. Similar to Sprint Nextel’s offering. However not as smoothly as Nextel. And I am not sure but I don’t know any AT&T customer that is using the PTT service. So basically I have a useless button on the side of my phone. Well not anymore.

The Home Button

One of the features of the iPhone that I like is the Home button. From any screen one click and your back to the Home screen. Too bad it closes your app that your running. Seeing how I have a button that I am not using I set out to create my own home button. Thanks to the ability to re-map your buttons this turned out to be pretty easy. Just so you understand, the way most Windows Phone users got back to the home screen was to use the End call button. Now this is ok except for when you are on the phone.

How to set it up

The way to re assign your PTT button is to Hit Start  |Settings | Personal | Then Buttons. From here you can See the available buttons and what they are currently assigned to.

  1. Highlight the PTT Button
  2. At the bottom of the screen expand the list of available programs.
  3. Simply select the home screen then hit Ok at the top.
  4. That’s it! Now enjoy your new Home button.

Now of course if you have another favorite app you can use that instead. If you do let me know what program you chose and why.
