Top 3 Ways I Hope to Use the iPad

I hope the iPad proves to be more than a large iPod Touch.  My wife was talking to me about buying bookshelves one day and I chuckled inside.  I was thinking when my kids have children they will wonder about this thing called bookshelves because to them digital books will be common place.  I was thinking of a couple ways I hope to use the iPad when it arrives on Saturday, April 3 2010.  I suspect my hopes around this device are not too far off from many other people so here we go.

Wall Street Journal Reader

One thing I love about trying out newspaper subscription services on the Kindle was the free 14 day trial.  It took only 2 days after subscribing to the Wall Street Journal to realize that I just did not like the experience of reading the journal on the Kindle.  I wonder and hope the iPad will offer a similar 14 day trial subscription to newspapers, magazines, and blogs.  I look forward to trying the WSJ again in digital format.  Let's see if the experience is better this time around.

Reading with my Kids

I can see doing interactive books on the iPad with my kids like "Green Eggs and Ham", "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" or "Treasure Island".  My kids love the interaction with my iPhone and have mastered that.  They love reading online and I hope publishers will create content for kids on the iPad.  Don't get me wrong, I will tryout books for me but the Kindle is a hard act to follow.

Answering Never ending Questions

It is amazing the questions kids ask, like who is on the dime, quarter, and nickel.  How do you say, "I am sleepy" in Spanish? How does it sound when a cow is chewing?  How does the Earth look from outerspace?  We spend countless hours looking up information on Wikipedia to answer and show answers to all of these questions and more.

I am not sure what to expect out of the device.  These are a couple ways I hope to use it with my family.
