Tailgating directions from my iPhone

This entire football season long has been horrific as I watched the Redskins lose home game after home game, however, the one thing that saved the season was tailgating with good friends. We often had many friends swing by our tailgate to hang out and grab some food. One common issue was trying to understand where we were located. Traditionally people would say I am parked in the orange or platinum lot A42 or something like that. Not us. First we asked a simple question. Does anyone have an iPhone? When the answer was yes, the solution was simple. I would grab my iPhone and send my location (Share Locations) to them via MMS or Email. Then had them use their GPS to follow the dot. While we always told the lot color and number, the GPS tracking was so much more accurate for people to find us.

One advantage, we did not both have to be on some social reverse stalking program like google latitude. The point was you need to know where I am now, not where I am at all time.

Second, the GPS location sent was extremely accurate. So accurate you could see the stadium, parking lines, light posts, and almost the actual space I was standing in.

It is bad enough the game is going to be lost by my team. I am surely not going to blow the tailgate with giving directions. If your an iPhone user trying to locate another iPhone user please use the share my location feature and GPS to track down your friends. Its a shame that Windows Mobile, Android, and Blackberry to not have this feature included natively although there are social location apps that span all platforms.

I am very glad that GPS feature was able to be utilized last Monday when my brother made his maiden voyage to FedEx Field. It worked great. Kudos to the IPhone!

What social networking apps allow you to share your location across multiple mobile phone platforms? That would be a cool article to hear about.

That is a great idea for tracking down friends when in a large open area. I need to give this one a shot

I would love to hear about those social location apps as well. I never thought of using my iPhone this way but I can say next time my wife drags me to the flea market…this will be the way she finds out where I moved the car. LOL

Every facility that I am aware of for the Android platform either requires you (and your target) to belong to some website or each have exactly the same application on your device, which keeps this from being cross-platform. Bother! There has to be a way to do this without turning on Location all the time.

Another good app on the iPhone is ASSEMBLE. I have been goofing on it for a bit now and it is really nice. I have to admit my friends son wrote it on a flight back from Germany. You have to love college students. I will be doing a write up of this soon
