If you don’t have a Slingbox I am not sure how you are living with yourself. And if you don’t know what a Slingbox is let me tell you. Sling Media makes a device called a Slingbox. This device connects to your Satellite or Cable Box. Once connected, you can then watch all your content remotely. From Live TV to Recorded shows all available to you over the internet. While this feature has always been very cool, the real gem is watching TV on your phone. Slingmedia has always been great about mobile apps. They support Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Windows Phone and the iPhone. As much as I love this app for some people, they have not always been great about upgrades.

I wrote an article a while back that mentioned how bad the Sling Player Mobile interface was when compared to the iPhone. But today, All I can say is thank you Sling Media. One of my biggest pet peeves about any company who makes apps for mobile phones is the lack of cross device support. You have to make your software support ALL MAJOR DEVICES. There is no way everyone is going to settle on one type of Smartphone. So if you want to win, support them all. Also, every interface should have relatively the same look and feel. The biggest disappointment, to me, and the biggest offender for this was Sling Media. The iPhone interface for SlingPlayer Mobile was a million times better than Windows Phone. But with the release of SlingPlayer Mobile 2.0 not anymore.

SlingPlayer Mobile, one of my favorite apps, has been around for quite some time. When it was released for the iPhone it was crippled by the fact that it could not run over the 3G network. Windows Phone had no issues. This was a great area for me to mock the iPhone but AT&T has now taken that away from me.
