I will be watching for major advancements on the HTC Sense UI getting ported to the Motorola Droid. Â My wife runs the Droid Eris and there are a variety of widgets on the Eris I like. Â The progress is not enough to get me to install, because my phone needs to function as a phone, and 3G voice is still and issue. Â At the very least this is going to be fun to watch the progress.
I was having a strange issue with my Motorola Droid. When I talked using the built-in microphone my voice would fade out over time resulting in a bad call for the listener. Â Since I use a my V-Moda headset 95% I rarely had to deal with the issue. Â I had been ignoring this issue for 3 months so I decided to take care of the problem. [click to continue…]
HTC has use their user interface to mask the experience on Windows Mobile and now Android. The HTC Sense UI and Touch Flo 3D has given a friendly user experience on Android and Windows Mobile respectively. When I first got my Motorola Droid I searched for how to port the HTC Sense UI. I almost gave up until I saw this. It appears AllDroid user Geek35T has made huge steps in porting the sexy HTC Sense UI. This is far from done. Currently, there are data issues, no calls over 3G, no GPS or Bluetooth. If your one of the crazy and brave check it out!
I bought the Motorola Droid over the Droid Eris because of the newer OS, 2.1 vs 1.6 now the Droid Eris (the device I really wanted) is getting the 2.1 OTA update first. I love my wife but how in the name of everything technical is she going to be running a more advanced operating system than I. Someone in the land of the Tech Gods is playing a bad trick on me. Is it April 1st and I just don’t know it? Did Motorola not say they would push the update, then said they made a mistake. I cannot be the only PISSED, Motorola Droid, user at this moment.
I know I can root my phone and I may do so after my flight today. If I don’t see 2.1 next week, I will NEVER BY A MOTOROLA DEVICE AGAIN. I second guessed myself and knew I should have gone with the Eris. WHY OH WHY DID I SECOND GUESS. DAMN YOU MOTOROLA!!!
I guess we will still be one release behind the Nexus One users but I will take 2.1. Â Sometimes I get information overload but I am happy to see the update for the Droid is coming this week. Â Makes me wonder when HTC will get off their backsides and update the Droid Eris.
I believe Motorola made a good call to excluded the battery draining feature called Live wall papers. Â I heard in the comments on phandroid.com that 3d spin icons will also not be included in this update.
I was complaining about an issue I have on my Motorola Droid when my friend stopped me and said “just blog about itâ€. Let me start by saying lately my wife constantly complains of my mobile phone reliability. I rarely answer my phone when she calls. There are so many jokes here, but she believes the problems I am having are associated with my new phone number or better yet Google Voice (GV). [click to continue…]
Google has said privacy is dead many times, but I still like to protect my privacy regardless. A very cool feature on Android is Frequently Called located under Phone | Favorites. This is automatically built by Android. Again it is an amazing feature as you can use it as a quick way to call people. The problem is you cannot clear the list. This is without a doubt a bug, and it was not fixed in the recent 2.0.1 update. I am not suggesting I or most people call someone they want to keep private, but this type of bug could doomed the next Tiger Woods wanna be.
After left the iPhone for Android I stated, “Never again will I have a phone that requires me to plug into a computer.” Let’s be honest when Apple does this it will be hailed by the Apple fanboys as the next coming of Steve Jobs despite the fact Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Symbian and others have had this for years.
Face it; the requirement of iTunes on the iPhone is the one thing that really makes the iPhone feel like dated technology. I attempted to travel with only my iPhone over a 3-day weekend, this turned out to be a mistake. My iPhone fell into some strange loop that required it to be reconnected to iTunes. I lost no data however my Phone would remain a paperweight until I traveled 400 miles back to my computer.
Now contrast that to Android. I was sitting in DFW before a flight and wanted to see what would happen if I restored my phone never having connected to a computer. I was concerned for my purchased apps but android backups my settings to GMail and that is pure genius. Once I entered my credentials all my apps and information got restored.
Most users don’t backup their computers let alone backup their mobile phone data. Google understood that automatic backup if far more valuable then relying on the user to backup. Call it brilliant, Call it innovation but it is a feature that the iPhone cannot match.
