Word is out that Verizon is releasing updates to both the Droid X and the original Droid. No, it’s not Gingerbread, no matter how much any of us want it to be. Rod has already mentioned that the Madden 2011 games appears to be included in the Droid X update.
Let’s see what the Droid X update includes
- Flash Player
- MyVerizon application
- Overall Froyo stability
- Enhancements to Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
- Visual Voicemail improvements
- And some other minor features, like MP3 support and improved video playback [click to continue…]
Waiting for OTA updates takes a large amount of patience or you can just manually perform the update. This is not a root process rather the approved update without the wait.

It appears Motorola Droid users are getting the Android 2.2 update now. Verizon must have started staging the update. Keep in mind if you rooted this update is not for you but finally the original Droid is getting updated. Enjoy and thanks for the tips.
If it was not for a pool incident I would be installing Android 2.2 (Froyo) on my Motorola Droid, then again I had the rooted version. Regardless, Verizon is starting the phased rollout of Android 2.2 for the Original Droid Users. The update file is on Google servers download Android 2.2 for the Motorola Droid here. If you have the rooted 2.2 don’t update unless you no longer want root access. The update is for people with a approved ROM.
Install Instructions
1) Rename the file to update.zip (Download link is above)
2) Copy update.zip to the root of your SD card.
3) Power off your Droid.
4) Power on your DROID holding down the X key on the keyboard.
5) When you see the exclamation image, press the volume up and camera keys at the same time.
Motorola’s Facebook page let out a little early their new ad campaign. Recent;y Apple lowered themselves and attempted to deflect some of their antennae blame. Their claim, everyone has the issue. In the video they held the back of the DROID X and showed it losing signal strength. Unfortunately for them, no one is jumping out there to say they can reproduce it. The new add makes fun of Apple giving away free bumpers so people can make phone calls. The simple statement “ No jacket required “.

It had to be less than 3 days ago I said I would go back to the Motorola Droid if they got Android 2.2 (Froyo) faster than I got root access to my HTC Incredible. Let me just say my wife just got her HTC Eris upgraded to the HTC Incredible and I am rocking the Motorola Droid Froyo style.
This is not the offical Android 2.2 release. I for one believe in the rooting community. This build does not support WiFi directly, so if this is a deal breaker turn back now (but there is a fix included in the instructions). I cannot wait to have Quick Boot again as this app requires root access. Motorola has said the official update is “coming soon” but I can switch back later if desired. For not root me baby. With humor I signed up to be notified about progress or when Android 2.2 will be available for the Motorola Droid. Â I have no doubt RSS and bloggers will beat this notification system, but you have to try. Â There is part of me hoping to see something similar for the Incredible soon. Â As much as I would hate to put my HTC Incredible down, I will go back to the Motorola Droid for Android 2.2, unless there is a jailbreak on the Incredible. Â Such a difficult debate some day I will stick with a technology longer than 30 days, but not today.

Since the day I got my Motorola Droid I have listened to complaints about call quality from friends. I did verify that one of my issues was a faulty microphone which was resolved with a hardware swap. Recently, after switching back to the Droid from my Blackberry Storm I started hearing the same classic complaints. I purposely told no one about the switch to see if I would get any comments and it took less than 2 phone calls. [click to continue…]
