In a press release today, Microsoft and Nokia announced their partnership to make Windows Phone Nokia’s principal smartphone strategy. While this announcement will quickly increase the market share for Windows Phone, Bing and adCenter will also get a bump by providing search and ad services on Nokia devices. Nokia is a premier hardware maker so this relationship will greatly help both companies.
Nokia’s Ovi Maps will become part of Bing and Nokia’s app store will become Microsoft’s Market. This would explain Nokia dropping their comes with music program since they will now have Zune Music store. Xbox live is about to get much bigger.
This announcement does not guarantee success but this is a huge announcement.
There is a job posted on the Microsoft’s Talent Network, Microsoft is looking for a Software Design Engineer. In the job posting there is an interesting circumstances. The first part is the need to build strong in software protection. The second part of the job title was interesting too, “Senior-Windows Phone (731601) Job”. So what do you think they are building for Windows Phone 7?
In a move we knew was coming Microsoft is expanding Zune music and Movie catalog to the U.K., France Italy, Germany and Spain. Microsoft is doing this for Windows Phone 7. Not every Zune Service will be available to everyone over in Europe yet but this is a good start. The Zune software version 4.7 will have all the new features in it.
Most companies let their employees choose which phone they use for work. This is something that was pointed out in the Windows Team Blog. And while clearly Microsoft is focusing on the consumer instead of the business user, people will still want to use Phone 7 for work. Well I know I will. In this Windows team blog Paul Bryan has written out some points to make when justifying your shine new Windows Phone.
I can already see Chris is smiling from ear-to-ear. Â The want this event to be the Courier. Â Maybe it is Zune related since they are pushing out Zune 4.5 and the 64 GB Zune HD soon. Â Maybe it is phone related project Pink or Windows Phone 7. Â Either way it is nice to see Microsoft do something like this. Â I for one will be blued to RSS that day. Â Hope to see something big. Â Maybe this…. Â Lets wait and see
In an unbelievable turn of events a leaked document is confirming that Windows Phone 7 will support multitasking. The document was leaked to the great team at XDA-developers. here is the quote from the document.
“As a preemptive multitasking operating system (OS), Windows Phone OS 7.0 supports multiple processes running simultaneously on the system. There is no limit to the number of processes that can run on the phone. The only limit is the amount of available system resources.”
This is huge news and should make Windows Phone users very happy. The other information obtained from the document was the frameworks for development. It looks like Windows Phone 7 supports Silverlight UI framework for event driven, XAML based development. and also Microsoft’s XNA UI Framework for lo-based games. XNA is the platform used for Microsoft Gaming including the XBOX. I really hope this is accurate.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is headed to Barcelona. The event dates are February 15-18 2010. Some of the keynote speakers include the CEO of Google Eric Schmidt and Vittorio Colao Chief Executive from Vodafone.
When did bashing Microsoft become the cool thing? When did it become Sheik? Listen, I am no writer. I am just another fat guy with a keyboard and an opinion. I know what makes sense and doesn’t. Today, I set out like every other day to find out what is going on in this world. I start with my Redskins news to see if we are back to the glory days, then I quickly move into tech news. The first article I come across is Why the Microsoft-HP Tablet Is a Big Disappointment.
One of the most underutilized features on Windows Mobile is Voice Command. In fact, the Android, iPhone, and Blackberry fans need to recognize the voice commands in Windows Mobile are superior to these platforms in all ways. Voice control technology has been around for a long time but really is not talked about much. It is a shame, because it is such an integral part of my life. I use voice control daily in my Chevy Avalanche with OnStar.
