Zinio provides a subscription service for digital magazines which you can access via a Windows, Mac, Linux, web browser, iOS and now Android. While RIM’s Playbook does not have a native Zinio app the Playbook Web Browser allow you to easily access your magazine subscriptions.

As a long time user of Zinio, a purveyor of digital magazines, it has been very frustrating to me that to date, a native app has only been available on the iOS platform. During the World Mobile Congress in 2010 (yes, nearly a year and a half ago), Zinio announced that they would have an Android client shortly. And yet we are still waiting. Recently, I noticed that a select number of Android platforms, including the Dell Streak, Thunder, Looking Glass, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Tab already have this functionality available. Now, there are some genuine issues that are holding Zinio up: they are moving to a new format that should be more universal to mobile devices, based on Adobe Flash and Adobe Air. I strongly suspect that part of the holdup is the lack of fully functional versions of those apps on Android. Second, with the move to this new format, if requires that magazine already digitized be converted to an entirely new format, which means that Zinio has to go back and re-do their whole catalog. Well, in any case, you get the idea that there is a lot more going on here than what you would think. All that aside, I still want my Zinio for Android, especially since I have given up my iOS devices altogether.

Amazon has released an update to Kindle for Android that supports the larger screen devices like the Motorola Xoom. The Kindle for Android update has an better shopping experience that takes advantage of the larger screen. Additionally, Amazon has revamped the layout for Newspapers and magazines.
