Samsung Fascinate

Just as we thought Samsung Fascinate users were stuck on Android 2.1, Verizon updates the devices to Froyo (Android 2.2). I would not hold out hopes on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) any time soon or future versions. The good news is this update is packed with numerous goodies.  For those waiting head into Settings | About Phone and check for updates.

Hardware Review: BlueAnt S4 True Handsfree Speakerphone

BlueAnt S4

The BlueAnt S4 True Handsfree Voice Controlled car speakerphone has become my travel companion in my weekly rental cars. Most states have adopted hands-free laws, and the BlueAnt S4 helps you comply with local laws and it makes you a safer driver. Well, as much as a handsfree device can. It will NOT help you with those poor driving habits you picked up while a teenager. While many solutions today are called hands-free most, unlike the BlueAnt S4, are less hands on vs. being truly handsfree.

Bluetooth headsets are a thing of the past for me. The only Bluetooth device I use now is a Bluetooth speakerphone. While I am in my car I use the Jabra Cruiser Bluetooth Speaker. With more states putting hands free laws into effect it makes sense. I just mount the Jabra Cruiser on my visor. When I took my Samsung Focus into the truck I paired it with my Jabra.

Motorola EQ5 Bluetooth Speaker and Speaker Phone is a Bargin

Motorola EQ5

It was back in January we wrote about traveling in style with great portable speakers. At the writing of the original article the Motorola EQ5 was a speaker I really wanted as it supported A2DP, Bluetooth audio streaming, and standard headset connections. I was given the X-mini-Capsule-Speaker that addressed all my audio needs and it was difficult to justify the $99 price tag of the Motorola EQ5. [click to continue…]

Windows Mobile has HandsFree Voice Commands done right

One of the most underutilized features on Windows Mobile is Voice Command. In fact, the Android, iPhone, and Blackberry fans need to recognize the voice commands in Windows Mobile are superior to these platforms in all ways. Voice control technology has been around for a long time but really is not talked about much. It is a shame, because it is such an integral part of my life. I use voice control daily in my Chevy Avalanche with OnStar.

Bluetooth headsets are so 2005, Get wired

by Rod on December 17, 2009 · 5 comments

I was at CMH (Columbus International Airport) yesterday.  I broke out my computer, and plugged in, getting ready for my Southwest flight.  Two great things happened

  1. Google provided free wireless, which was great, as Gate A4 at BWI Airport has a bad Verizon Signal, thus my EVDO card was SLOW.
  2. Southwest, as always, provides power in chairs and at tables for travelers.

Let me state that this is not going to end up as a rant about how airports need to provide power for travelers.  Rather, I am going to talk about the loud talking business woman I had next to me that appeared to be talking into thin air.

Yep, you guessed it… the dang bluetooth headsets.  I used one many years ago but I am back to wired headsets.  In part I hate looking like the loud, idiot talking to myself.  On the recommendation of a good friend of mine, I tried out the v-moda vide II headsets and have been using them ever since.  I got them when I used the iPhone and they are just my favorite.  The quality of the sound is just what I need and they last about a year of me beating them up before I have to replace them when a new pair.

Early on v-moda had a quality control issue and my headsets would break in 30-60 days.  The return/exchange/warranty process with v-moda could not have been better.  The company stands behind their product and has earned my business for many years to come.  The mute/pause button on the headset works well with my Motorola Droid.  The only negative I have come across is that I cannot disconnect calls from the headset.  It also is great for my favorite pass time of listening to podcasts.

So to all of you business travelers out there, stop being the annoying loud mouth on the bluetooth wireless headset, and do us all a favor and get wired!
