After everyone in the world felt RIM needed a drastic shakeup, today they announced that Co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie are stepping down and named Thorsten Heins the new CEO of Research In Motion. Even though Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie are stepping down as CEO’s they will remain involved with the company.

Research In Motion Second Quarter 2012 Financial Results

When you fail to aggressively respond to competition attempting to redefine your market this quarterly earnings report highlights the results 5 years later. RIM sold 200,000 Playbooks, which is a pathetic 2% of the 9.25 million iPads Apple sold. It is the smartphone market that the largest blow was delivered. RIM sold 10 million devices, merely half what Apple sold in the same quarter. Don’t tell me QNX is the solution. Going out of business sale coming soon.

People are fired for such poor results quarter after quarter, year after year. Apple took the crack out of this berry.

Verizon, who has always been a strong supporter of BlackBerry phones, has announced today that they will be carrying the BlackBerry Torch 9850. This new Device from RIM will be running the latest operating system Blackberry 7. On the last Simple Mobile Review Podcast we started wondering if some of these BlackBerry 7 phones would be able to upgrade to the new QNX OS. It is tough to tell anyone to get a BlackBerry today, however the phone is nice enough that perhaps some will take the leap (aks RIMarkableRobb) . Marriott Mobile App Comes to iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry

Marriott has released a mobile app for Android, BlackBerry, and iOS.  The app, Marriott Mobile, allows you to find available rooms, make or cancel reservations, or simply check the balance of your Marriott Rewards account. The app is free on all platforms. If you frequent Marriott hotels and participate in Marriott Rewards having mobile access customized to your device is a welcome feature.

Marriott has over 3,000 hotels worldwide so finding a location should be easy.  At the very least you can explore you next trip to any Marriott, Ritz Carlton, or Marriott Vacation Club property.

BlackBerry Bold 9930

The BlackBerry Bold 9930 will land on Verizon Wireless at Aug 25th.  Finally RIM is releasing a new device on Verizon and it will be powered by BlackBerry 7. The Bold 9930 is super thin an is has hardware similar to other smartphone devices such as a 1.2 GHz processor, 5 Megapixel camera, 720p HD Recording, and finally a leveraging the GPU. The only downside is the new hardware is not a 4G device.

BlackBerry Torch 9810, Torch 9850/9860

When RIMarkable Robb took the a picture of the BlackBerry store on monday the sales person had several boxed he was working through it could have been the new BlackBerry Torch 9810 and the BlackBerry Torch 9850/9860. RIM has officially announced three new BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry 7 OS.  Availability and pricing should be coming over this month as carriers start launching the devices.
