Like every other major eBook Platform, Sony has released their Reader for Android. The iOS version is pending Apple’s approval. Brent recently wrote an article highlighting how B&N, Kobo, and Sony eBooks use Adobe DRM thus they can be read in Aldiko eReader app as well. It is rather nice the finally have a “full set” of reader apps for mobile platforms, but I am not sure that this offering from Sony is too little, too late.
The app works as expected, once you logon, and all your book purchases are available on your device. If you have concerns about screen brightness when reading from inside the app you can adjust screen brightness, change font sizes, bookmark, and add comments. The Sony Reader app only works on Android 2.2 or higher, thus many Samsung devices and Sony Ericsson devices won’t be able to use this app. Or many of the current flock of Android Tablets. Sony also offers the ability to purchase ebooks from within the app. However, it just opens the Sony Book Store in your web browser, so nothing to write home about there. If you you are dedicated to the Sony Reader, this should be helpful to you. If not, to me it seems a yawner.
