Today I read another article telling us that Microsoft blew the Smartphone market and apple is winning it. I don’t mind reading these articles but I wish someone would have an original thought on the subject. The article stated that they had the ability to take control but let Apple come in and create a phone geared to the consumer vs. the enterprise. They continued to read about the brilliance of Apple in the design of the iPhone. I question whether Apple was really that brilliant.
Let’s be clear Apple took their media player and added a phone to it. My goodness let’s get these guys on the shuttle team. It is the same thing that Microsoft did. They took their Pocket PC and added… you guessed it, a phone. Give Apple credit for coming up with a great MP3 player with a easy user interface. They concentrated on user experience which was definitely needed. But was it such a stretch to add a phone to it? I think not. Now aside from the brillianc sentiment for Apple the other nonsense point of view is that Microsoft’s weakness was the fact that they run on multiple vendors devices. This to me is an outrages statement. Microsoft always get’s trashed because of their OS’s and Apple gets the passing grade. Microsoft builds an OS that runs on different machines, then they allow people to create hardware and software that runs on that machine. If they were to close the OS how many companies would go out of business? How many people would be crying that Microsoft is to proprietary? And why is it that every expert says that the Android OS is the future because it can run on multiple platforms but this same concept is Microsoft’s detriment? The problem comes when people create crappy apps and hardware and somehow Microsoft’s OS takes the hit. Should they have gone to a more touch friendly interface sooner of course they should have. But stop the madness already.
