The last app that I have been waiting for for Android has released today. I can now safely say that if push came to shove I could remain on the Android platform. That would have to be one ridiculous push but hey anything is possible. I wrote a post a few months back when the app was updated for Windows Phone. I love my Slingbox. But I really like what Sling Media has done with the UI. For starters you must have a Slingbox.
The initial Connect Screen is new but nothing to really talk about. If you don’t know the best thing to do is get a few friend with Slingboxes. That way if you are having some network issues you can just connect to another one. The Directory looks good with the Slingbox icons.
One of the nice things about the Slingbox is the automatic speed throttling. Basically the Slingbox will detect your connection speed and automatically change the quality of the video you get. This is done to make sure you get a constant stream. Generally no matter your connection speed the picture quality looks pretty good.
It’s sad to say that not all was perfect on the Android platform. There is something that occurred that I have never experienced using SlingPlayer Mobile. On Rod’s phone the app crashed.
Now there are a few factors that can possibly have caused this and one of them is the fact that his phone is rooted and flashed to 2.2 on the DROID. Either way I am not seeing this on the Nexus One. Therefore for now, I hold judgment for the error. But for the app, great job to Sling Media for creating an app that runs on multiple platforms.
