A few months ago I wrote about an annoying issue on my Nexus One. Basically what was happening is while listening to a show on the Sirius|XM app it would begin to loop. Turns out anyone running Android 2.2 (FROYO) was having the same issue. The speculation is that the Kernel changes Google made in Android 2.2 that handled auido playback caused this issue in the Sirius|XM app. While this changed did not affect all audio apps, it did affect Sirius|XM. The new version of the Sirius|XM app not only fixes the looping issue, but it seems to work a lot better. If you ignore the user interface it is almost like a brand new app under the hood the performance is that much better.
I downloaded and tested the app and the first thing that I noticed is that the initial buffer came in much faster. I also was able to leave my house where I was using WiFI and the Sirius|XM app seamlessly switched over to 3G. I drove up and down the highway and never lost the stream. The only problem that I saw was using 3G for internet and streaming the Opie and Antony show to the Jabra Cruiser Bluetooth car kit. My Nexus one was connected to the Jabra using Bluetooth. I was also sending the show to my car stereo using the FM modulator in the Cruiser. During this scenario the audio was stuttering as if there was a loss of bandwidth. However, I was not able to reproduce this behavior so I assume it was an anomaly.
Overall I am happy and excited that the app is working again. Just in time because the Opie and Anthony Show to be back on live. Don’t forget your this great portable speaker to listen to your shows!
Thank you to Sirius|XM for getting this fix out.
