I was introduced to WorldMate by a work colleague a couple years ago it has been one of my favorite travel programs since. Â I use two travel programs but mainly because I don't want all my eggs in one basket and because WorldMate is not on Android today. Â I am always excited to see companies I like invest in the business. Â Below is a press release from WorldMate about changes in the executive ranks.
WorldMate Adds to Executive Team to Continue Global Expansion, Lead Mobile Travel Innovation
Palo Alto, CA March 2, 2010 — WorldMate Inc., the personal travel assistant chosen by over 5 million business and elite travelers, today announces two new executives are joining the team as the company continues its global expansion of the world's most popular mobile travel service. Effective immediately, Jean Tripier serves as WorldMate's Chief Executive Officer and Amir Kirshenboim rejoins the company as CEO of WorldMate Israel, where he will lead product development. Nadav Gur, founding CEO of WorldMate, remains with the firm, running business operations as the company’s Chief Commercial Officer.
Jean Tripier comes to WorldMate with 20 years of expertise in the wireless telecommunications industry, leading operations and business development in several established companies and startups. Most recently, Tripier was Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Good Technology. He helped grow the company from 35 employees to 400 and built Good’s OEM business from the ground up, establishing commercial and strategic relationships with key industry leaders. Prior to joining Good, Tripier was Vice President of Corporate Development at international mobile giant Vodafone, overseeing the entire Asia Pacific region. Tripier also personally oversaw the launch of Vodafone Romania, which today has over 9 million subscribers.
"In today's competitive mobile environment, anyone can create a mobile 'app'. A company must offer smart and timely services to distinguish itself," said Tripier. "I look forward to taking WorldMate to the next level and bringing our industry-leading solutions to a wider audience of demanding business travelers."
The company also announced Amir Kirshenboim is returning to WorldMate as CEO of WorldMate Israel, where he will lead product innovation. Kirshenboim, who served as the company’s VP of Product Development in 2004-2007, returns after two years at the video ringtone company, Vringo, where he was Senior Vice President of Products. He brought the product to leading industry partners such as Marvel Comics, Maxis and Etisalat and helped build a wide user base. Before originally joining WorldMate, Kirshenboim founded two mobile companies, DITIO Software Ltd. and Smart Mobile Applications.
"WorldMate already books trips for members, suggests alternatives if something should go wrong, and remembers your preferences when traveling," said Kirshenboim. "Today, we're working on features that can provide more context and leverage geo-location services. WorldMate's future is a travel application that acts as a true assistant, and exceeds the expectations of what Web or mobile apps can do today.''
