Rod and I have had a fairly large difference of opinion on how to get the best call quality. Quite frankly, I have tried EVERYTHING, no matter the cost. I have had every single Jawbone that has been released and ended up tossing them. Too hard to keep on. I have tried every brand and style that had any kind of good press. I even tried Rod’s favorite wired V-Moda headset and while the quality of sound was really good, it was torture to use them. I tried everything to try and get the fit, but my ears don’t respond well to stuffing something in them. But, last December, on a whim, I purchased a goof-ball looking headset that had really good reviews: The Plantronics Voyager Pro. It might help you look like a dork, but I have never used a headset that has performed so well under ALL conditions and while it is sort of odd to put something that big behind your ear, it is so comfortable that I hardly remember I have it on. It delivers great sound to my ear, but nothing is stuffed INTO my ear. It’s very easy to get on and off. Rod has me so conditioned, that within 10 seconds of ending a call, boom, off it comes!

Rod’s Review of the Voyager
I knew this was a good headset when 4 of my most talked to friends commented about good sound quality. In fact, two of my buddies Jeff and Brent, with out knowing the headset said, “You sound the best you have in a long time.” I used the Plantronics Voyager PRO for an entire work day on a single charge, that is a critical test to pass for me. A downside was the lack of Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) which allow streaming of music or podcasts to your bluetooth headset.
I used the headset outside in the wind and did not hear too many complaints. When I started cleaning my grill I did get comments about the loud noise of dragging metal on metal. I have no doubt this would not have been heard if I was wearing the Jawbone Icon Hero.
One down side of bluetooth headsets in general I forgot about was the appearance of talking either to yourself or to random people around you. As I moved through Home Depot I was talking to a friend but as I rounded several corners I had to explain to people I am on a call and point to my headset. This is one aspect of the BT headsets I do not miss.
The Voyager is without a doubt a bluetooth headset I will be keeping. Despite not having the same noise cancelation of the Jawbone Icon Hero, the audio quality on both sides of a call are just amazing. I currently use Plantronics on my desk phone and welcome it to my new collection of mobile bluetooth headsets.
