Over the weekend, I stumbled on an interesting concept that I figured I would look at and leave behind. Imagine how happy I was to find technology that has real use to me and on multiple platforms! AlwaysOnPC is a cloud-based Virtual Machine (VM) that is running RedHat Linux, and gives you desktop-level apps on your mobile platform. It is currently available for iPhone/Touch, iPad, and now Android and it supports connections via 3G or Wi-Fi. [click to continue…]
I am not a video expert, but I would have expected better video quality from Dell. Despite the video quality it is nice to see a company of Dell's size lets product teams reach the public like this. The video tires to answers some important questions. Oh yeah and Kevin Andrews of Dell tweeted the Streak won't be releasing this week. Wonder why. The pricing on the Dell Streak is $299 with an AT&T contract and $549 without a contract.
What Android Version will the device support? Dell Plans to upgrade to Froyo. No timeline was provided
Will the Dell Streak work on TMobile? The Streak is not certified or compatibile with T-Mobile
What colors will the Dell Streak be available in? Carbon available in UK and round the world soon. Cherry Red will ship later.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RIM Announce the BlackBerry Slider on August 3rd. I don't want to hear about the Pearl 3G. I hope RIM demonstrates BlackBerry OS 6 running on a variety of devices including non touch screens. They need to put concerns to rest over devices and the future OS. BlackBerry needs some buzz, iPhone and Android dominate the mobile phone press today and Windows Phone 7 is also starting to generate buzz. The Slider would be a great announcement. We plan to cover the event live.

As provided by law, the Library of Congress is tasked with reviewing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) every 3 years and they can open exemptions that keep the Act more fair for “fair use”, based on changing times and technology. Today, a number of exemptions were opened, among which they have made it “legal” to root or jail-break a digital device, in order to load app not approved by the device vendor or carrier. It will still void your warranty, but that is another matter.

Well even thought they said it would take a few weeks the iPhone 4 bumper case has shipped. If you have been under a rock for the last few weeks Apple has decided to shut everyone up they would give away bumper cases to solve their antennae issue. You have to install an app on your phone to order it but the process is pretty simple. If a piece of tape can sole the iPhone 4’s bumper issue then the bumper is sure to take care of it. I am just wondering if anyone is still annoyed that the phone will not look the same. Or, do you always use a case therefore it is no big deal?
Citigroup confirmed that Citi Mobile for iPhone has a security flaw. Citi Mobile is used by CitiBank customers for various mobile banking needs from the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app was storing sensitive information like account numbers, payment information, and security access codes in a hidden file on the users phone. Citi has updated the Citi Mobile App and suggests users upgrade.

Three exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was granted thanks to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).
The most critical of the rulings as it relates to mobile devices is the one that says jailbreaking or rooting your mobile phone to run apps from any source is now legal. This does not prevent manufactures or carriers from implementing technology like eFuse to protect against jailbreaking. The ruling also does not cover the distribution of tool to jailbreak/root devices. It really just says they cannot sue you if you bypass the restrictions.

One of my favorite features on Windows Mobile was “Voice Command”. I have used voice controls on the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone. Windows Phone was by far the best of the bunch. I was really interested to see what Microsoft was going to do on Phone 7 and now a video has emerged of this very feature. On Windows Phone 7 the “Tell Me” service will be handling voice controls. Microsoft bought TellMe a few years ago to replace Voice Command. I have to say, I like how fast the demo shows voice command working but, I am sad to see it has less features than what is available today.
