Anyone that was waiting for Firefox on a Windows Phone 6.x device can stop waiting. Yesterday Mozilla announced that they have abandoned development for the platform. Mozilla is blaming the fact that Microsoft has closed off development of native Windows 7 apps. All applications for Windows Phone 7 Series must be developed on the XNA platform. Basically Microsoft wants a controlled environment for apps running on the new phone. This is probably a good decision because it allows Microsoft to update phones faster with less worry about old programs. But the downside is for all the people who have older phones there really is no motivation for people to write apps for them. I suspect that this will be a continued trend for the old 6.x platform. Although it is a lock that I am getting Phone 7 this still bugs me for my folks that are not able to get one right away!
