Last night I finally updated my Nexus One to Android 2.2. We have been hearing about this new version for quite some time. The Codename was FROYO which stood for Frozen Yogurt. There were reports that this version was being pushed over the air this week but I never got it. So I took matters into my own hand and did it myself. You can do the same if you want. I have to say, so far, I am underwhelmed by the update.
Now I am not saying that this update is not a good one, but I am saying that it may have been over hyped. At least for users that were running 2.1. One of the biggest things that was talked about was the speed of the new OS. I don’t have a speed test setup but I can say that things do seem to load a little faster. Although, maybe I am just willing it to load faster. The other thing in the update to tale note of is the new bar at the bottom that follows the phone on the home screens. It doesn’t come close to replacing a hardware call button but it does help a little. Other than that I noticed a few “nice to haves†but nothing that knocked my sox off. I know that Rod had some issues with SlingPlayer Mobile on his version of 2.2 (Rooted) but I am not seeing those issues. I also confirmed the Sirius XM app seems to be working without issue.
I think for the most part that I was oversold on the 2.2 update. Users on older versions than 2.1, I can see you really wanting an update, but as for everyone else relax no biggie. On our last podcast, Rod said that I do this to him all the time with movies and shows that I want him to watch. I make them seem better than they actually are. But honestly I haven’t found what all the hoopla was about. Well at least not yet.
