One of our favorite media player devices has always been the Zune HD. Some of the features we loved were the speed, screen and weight of the mp3 player too. Despite being a great device the Zune HD and the Original Zune never really set the world on fire, however its existence was not in vain. Anyone that looks at a Windows Phone 7 device knows it received some influence from the Zune HD. None of these features could save the Zune line. Bloomberg.com is reporting that Microsoft will not be releasing any new models of Zune.

According to the article, Microsoft will instead be concentrating on putting the Zune software onto mobile phones. This news does make sense since the rumors of Microsoft dropping the Zune name have been floating around the last few weeks. I just hope this does not mean that Microsoft is done making portable media devices. One of the things that made the iPhone so popular was the iPod touch and I believe Windows Phone 7 could benefit from the same thing.
