HTC Incredible Calibration Tool

I have been using virtual keyboards on my smartphones for 5-6 years now, and when I go back to a physical keyboard like on the BlackBerry Tour the keys just feel so small and cramped. Despite many years of using virtual keyboards I still have accuracy problems hitting the correct keys. I joked in the past about your smartphone making you spell like a 6 year old, which had to do with a combination of in accurate key presses and auto correct.

Early smart phone allowed you to perform a calibration to increase the accuracy of key presses. Guess what the HTC Incredible allows for calibration to increase the accuracy of key presses based on how you strike the keys. The calibration tool is several levels down in the settings, but worth doing if you’re typing appears to be inaccurate. To access the calibration tool follow this path

Menu | Settings | Language & Keyboard | Touch Input | Text Input | Calibration tool

The calibration tool is supposed to detect your off-set when you press the keys, so don’t try to be super accurate when calibrating, just type normal. I was shocked it did not perform calibration in both portrait and landscape as you would believe the off-set would be slightly different.

If the HTC Incredible is your second Android Phone and you’re not overly happy with the virtual keyboard provided remember you can change the virtual keyboard on Android. I have not tried calibrating with an alternative virtual keyboard, but that sounds like a weekend project. I am looking for the Motorola Droid keyboard, not because it is better, rather because it has a dedicated smiley face key when sending text messages.

Try Better Keyboard. It has it and you can choose from over 200 different layouts and colors. Probably even a Redskins one…
