If you are using a Windows Phone then you should have Yomomedia installed. Yomomedia is a great RSS reader and really good at doing Podcasts too. I wrote a review of Yomomedia a while back and they continue to be a solid application. Of course there are other ways to add a podcast but this is the method that I think is the best. Let me walk you through adding a podcast on Windows Phone using Yomomedia.
There are two ways to Subscribe to a podcast using Yomomedia. You can use the website or you can do it directly on the phone. For this post we will focus on using the website.
This post assumes you have installed Yomomedia on your phone and have created an account on the site.
From the Website
When it comes to managing feeds, Yomomedia took a great route, in the fact they let you manage your subscriptions online and sync them with your phone. If you go to Yomomedia’s website and log into your account, on the left corner is the option for “New Feedâ€
When you click it a box pops up for you to add the feed url for the podcast you want to subscribe to. (most sites have a RSS button or a link that says subscribe to …… when you click on it, the web address (URL) on the page that opens, is usually the address you need.) Copy and paste the url from in the box.
When you click ADD a brief load takes place. then the podcast is added. To verify your desired show has been added click the “Feeds†tab in the top left hand corner. You should see your show in the list.
The final step is to set this show to download automatically to your phone. First check the box next to the mobile phone icon
Next click the gears icon next to your show to expose the properties option… click it
There are a bevy of options on this screen including the opportunity to add a username and password (if your podcast requires it). You only need to modify the download policy at the bottom.
Here you can choose to
- How to Download the Media (Automatically, When Connected to a PC, When Connected to Power, Only when I choose)
- Download Frequency
- Keep Recent Downloads
- Auto Update time
- Storage limit
You can just as easily go with the defaults but mine are set to what you see below.
The next time your phone syncs with the site it will pick up the new settings and your phone will start to sync on schedule.
