Post image for How Motorola Pissed me off Today!

I bought the Motorola Droid over the Droid Eris because of the newer OS, 2.1 vs 1.6 now the Droid Eris (the device I really wanted) is getting the 2.1 OTA update first. I love my wife but how in the name of everything technical is she going to be running a more advanced operating system than I. Someone in the land of the Tech Gods is playing a bad trick on me. Is it April 1st and I just don’t know it? Did Motorola not say they would push the update, then said they made a mistake. I cannot be the only PISSED, Motorola Droid, user at this moment.

I know I can root my phone and I may do so after my flight today. If I don’t see 2.1 next week, I will NEVER BY A MOTOROLA DEVICE AGAIN. I second guessed myself and knew I should have gone with the Eris. WHY OH WHY DID I SECOND GUESS. DAMN YOU MOTOROLA!!!

Your not alone. I will buy the Nexus One when it comes to verizon. I am really pissed at Motorola but I am not leaving Verizon out. I am not upset enough to go to AT&T (no point in over reacting)

      That’s just cold! :)

I don’t think there is still any real confirmation that any update is pushing to the Eris. Personally I think this is the same crap that happened on Jan. 22 with the supposed 2.1 update to the Droid. It is very apparent that 2.1 still needs a bit of work as a whole. Even using SholesMod, the stock 2.1 update modified for the Droid has shown to be not very stable, which is why I choose the hybrid 2.0.5 version which uses 2.0.1 as the base. For what it’s worth…

I hear you Brent but if my wife gets 2.1x before my Droid I am dropping Motorola. The one beauty of the iPhone update model is the carriers are not involved. I just want Google to put out and update and then I can install it. Stop the madness. This update nightmare is what kills Windows Mobile. Ask any HTC US customer that sees the same phone updated in EU to never see and update in the US.

Google and Microsoft need to address this real issue. The iPhone is popular and everyone can see how updates SHOULD WORK.

Is there anybody else who think Rods being a winey little bit##. He sould be happy if anybody is getting more current updates. We all pay to much per month for these services and as long as there updating our phones after testing the realiablility than at least were getting something for the high cost.

    • TechJunky70

Well you have to admit the phone that had the most press, (DROID Does blah blah blah) is now the phone with the oldest OS. And someone who bought that should just be happy they have a phone? Do you always settle that easy? Rod keep holding their feet to the fire These Phone companies get away with way too much

    • http://www.simplemobilereview.com Rod Simmons

Steven your comment made me laugh had to put this up. You say we pay too much so we should be satisfied with sub standard performance. Not me I would rather be a winey bit##. I am happy they test and try to get something reliable that would explain why the Droid shipped so many obvious bugs. Keep the comments coming but if my wife gets the update first. Motorola is dead to me!!

    • MomO4

Am I the only one that thinks steven hendrickson is a verizon or motorola plant. What a TOOL! Keep letting companies run over you. F’ing DORK go comment some place else. You made no point but to show you like to be dominated you loser!!

  • steven hendrickson

God knows the wife cant have anything better than you. Thats pretty damn sorry.

    • http://www.simplemobilereview.com Rod Simmons

I would try to explain but you would never understand. She could careless about the update. I selected the Eris for her as it was the best form factor and I knew the OS would be updated. Anyway VZW and Moto need to get their acts together or people will understand why the iPhone kicks butt.

Rod come back to the iPhone. You clearly understand the problem with Android and Windows Mobile is the involvement of the mobile carriers. With Windows and Android unlike Blackberry and iPhone you also have the hardware manufacture involved.

steven hendrickson seems upset that you want Verizon and Motorola to do their jobs. More important TechJunky70 says it best. They marketed the DROID as a super human phone now they are slow to update despite massive security issues. Shame on verizon and motorola

Droid does not do updates. As much as you can hate the iPhone updates are not a huge issue. Ignore steven hendrickson his comment lacks intelligence.

Verizon and Motorola need to step.

PS Steve Jobs would like you to have an iPhone again :)

I am sure you know I don’t hate the iPhone considering I have had every generation. I have a devotion to the latest technology.

I like a decent debate and appreciate comments even if they are against mine. Steven’s post points out I did a bad job explaining something. I have no issue with my wife having better stuff then me. In fact like most husbands I try to ensure my wife has the best.. That said I used her as an example of someone the could careless about technology. The other day she had no clue her phone was Android vs Blackberry vs Windows Mobile. My wife cares that is takes calls, sends SMS, and lets her take pictures of the kids along with some other feature. I should have explained better I was using her as an example of someone that does not care about technology and giving her the update is like giving sand to a man in the desert.

The main point was the Droid was not getting the update when the Eris was and had little or nothing to do with me and my wife.

All the best and keep commenting!

To all who point to Apple as a paragon of virtue in updating, may I respectfully point out that while the process is somewhat straight-forward, it also requires you to connect to a desktop, it is as often used for censorship as for updating, and it exemplifies my own personal concerns when you lock yourself in lock, stock, and barrel with just one vendor. You are completely at their mercy, with few, if any alternatives.

Rod i was in the wrong presuming that you didnt want the best for your wife and for that i am sorry. Now to clarify i am happy for anyone who gets an update regardless of who is first. All makes and models of droid. I didnt know about the desire coming out or i would had of waited for it. But im over my 30 days so im stuck with this phone for 2 years. I as well want continueous updating as well. I just dont want them to ota on me untill it is a great product. And no im not a corporate plant. That was weird. And to the moderator And Rod i am sorry also for the profanity. Where i live in tennessee guys treat their wives badly and thats what triggered the comment for that im sorry again!

Take me to task any time. Here is a little trick I have learned. It will cost you $10 per month but it is worth it to me. Find a old crappy VZW phone that does not support data. Add a line now you can upgrade each line every other year. My wife and I both have two lines. I know this is a waste of money but it ensures we both can get a new phone annually assuming we see something we like. The reason to use and old crappy phone is so you can avoid the $30 data package on one of the lines. If you plan to upgrade frequently is costs less to pay $10 per month then to pay and early upgrade fee.

No need to apologize. Just happy to have you commenting

You know I enjoyed this. Rod seems to be a really cool person with an exceptional temperment. I too was kinda getting this vibe that Rod was an egotistical domineering husband to his wife that couldn’t handle something so frivolous and petty as not having the most advanced mobile OS before is wife.

So when Steven made his comment I knew what he meant. I also thought it was brave(because you know the backlash is comming. And typically there aren’t guys like Rod out there that can step back and say to themselves, “you know based on the info which I presented, this person’s{Steven} remark is accurate, to be expected and not all that inapropriate…”)

Then Rod’s demeanor came across to me as “…I didn’t really want to go in to it and I shouldn’t have to but perhaps I should…”

All very humble and mature attitudes. I liked how Steven replied in his next post. Especially considering what he was following. which leads me to my last point about mom04′s remarks. See that’s typical. It’s like in a furious rage of emotional blathering mom04 fires out obscenities, irrational insults without any foundation. Its next to immpossible to carry on a conversation or have an intelligent debate with somebody once that negative emotional monster has grabbed ahold of a person.
Well that’s all from me. sorry to be so winded. I just had to say something.

Nah Steven had it right the first time, Rod is a jerk :)

The truth is Rod is so far away from being “that guy”, it really is silly to think otherwise. But this was early on in our site history where we had to realize most people have no idea about us personally. But now that we have 40 podcasts up, folks can start to get to know us better.

Thanks for the comment and welcome to SMR!

I almost could not remember writing this post then like a wave of water it washed over me. So much has changed since this post. I gave my wife the HTC Incredible when her Droid Eris started running slow and I am using the BlackBerry Bold 9650 running BB OS 6. I am waiting on the Samsung Focus Running Windows Phone 7, then again the Dell Phone looks good also.
Did I mention we now have our fourth kid.

I have taken much more care to ensure when I write something I paint a better picture of the situation as I want to avoid people getting the wrong view of me.

Thanks for your kind words and for Mom04…you can never stop comment trolls.
