The favorite contact feature is one feature lacking on the Blackberry but if you use the call log and/or activity log like I do favorites do not matter. The call log on the Blackberry give you quick access to the people you are recently calling with. In contrast the activity log can show all call, email, sms, and mms activity with an individual contact. The combination of these two features really makes up for what is perceived to be missing.
Favorites vs Call Log
I don’t want to go into how favorites work on Android and the iPhone as it has been covered in another article. Over the last 2 weeks I have been trying to use my mobile phone for all my business calls. To save time of filtering the contact list I have been using the Blackberry call log.
The classic issue is you call a friend at one number but you need to call them on another number. On my Blackberry I just go to the call log, select the last call then click menu. With the contact selected click menu to see all the other numbers available for this contact. I would say 70% of my calls are made from the call log. This is nothing magical, but most people do not realize how the call log can help you quickly call your contacts on any of their defined numbers.
Activity Log is a Automatic CYA
When it comes to the activity log I try to use this to track down my communication activity with an individual contact. How often do you have the conversation below:
You: I called you about 1 hr ago but you did not answer
Friend: I did not get your call, did you leave a message?
You: No I assumed you would just call me back
Friend: My phone never rang are you sure you called me
You: Yes
Friend: What number did you call me at?
You get the story. The activity log answers allows me to pull up a log for this contact only so I can say, I called you at 4:11 PM on your home phone; then at 4:12 PM on your mobile; then I sent you a text message at 4:14 PM.
The call log is an amazing tool on the blackberry and with a single click you can redial a number or use the blackberry menu button to call a different number. The call log is the new favorite list.
