Enough with the Microsoft Bashing

When did bashing Microsoft become the cool thing? When did it become Sheik? Listen, I am no writer. I am just another fat guy with a keyboard and an opinion. I know what makes sense and doesn’t. Today, I set out like every other day to find out what is going on in this world. I start with my Redskins news to see if we are back to the glory days, then I quickly move into tech news. The first article I come across is Why the Microsoft-HP Tablet Is a Big Disappointment.

The writer, Daniel Lonescu proceeds to tell us that the new Microsoft-HP tablet was underwhelming. He also “poo poos the tablet as a color e-reader running Amazon Kindle Software.” Daniel also quotes Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer describing the tablet as “Something that’s almost as portable as a phone and that’s as powerful as a PC running Windows 7.”

The Aha Moment

The aha moment came when I read “The over-hyped, yet disappointing slate computers presentation from Microsoft leaves way for Apple to surprise the world in late January, as analysts expect a better offering from the Cupertino company.”  The way Ballmer presented this device peaked my interest.  I get how you can dream of a mythical device and explain how that could be better the an actual device.  What I don’t get is most of these tools cannot even begin to articulate what this over hyped magical iSlate that has been dipped in unicorn tears will do.  I have heard the rumors and guesses and not one has made me want to drop money on it.

For all I know this device could define a new market but how can you seriously write an article bashing something that is real in favor of what is down the rabbit hole.  Maybe I am no one special.  I suspect the goal of the article was the “shock factor”.  To me this was just jumping on the bash Microsoft bandwagon.  I guess if your going to kiss Steve Job’s…well enjoy yourself Daniel. They are saying this device will be under $500.  So I have to check it out.

Don’t believe the hype

Look, I am not crazy. I know that Microsoft does plenty to get whipped for. But there is a lot that is just not justified. Don’t get sucked into this nonsense. Go out and compare devices for yourself. Otherwise you may be missing out on some really cool technology because some dope got lazy.

It’s not just before the person touch the real thing. The hype also creates perception. If they perceive Apple’s product as better, then that became their reality.

In the other side, Microsoft had their tainted reputation, and the echo chamber loves to voice their worse side. Why wouldn’t those came into the perception too ?
Not everyone are critical enough to find arguments, so they just parrot those who create it for them.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I sometimes wonder if these guys have any integrity left. I guess you and I will have to keep informing people to keep their eyes open.

Yeah, the part that really gets me going is all these fanboys trying to tell me what a Tablet is, and I say “Yeah, I’ve used one for more than 10 years!” Oh, that was Tablet 1.0. This is different. Right… Like they know what a Tablet is? It’s the same as Vista bashing. Every single person who carried on that I came across had never used it for more than 10 minutes. Give me a break. These kids don’t remember before we had ‘Industry Standard PC’s’ where we can actually buy software from someone other than the HW vendor. Largely due to MS.
