Connectify

“In case you missed it, Connectify 2.0 is now available!” This is the tweet that I picked up a couple days ago, so I had to immediately check it out. As you may remember, I have been using Connectify since it was a beta product, and it has been nice to see the pace of development that has gone into this product. It is a regular staple on all my Windows 7 machines. It allows me to setup a WiFi Hotspot using my Mobile Broadband USB Modem and share the signal wealth with all my devices (and colleagues too, if they behave themselves!). While I can do the same with my Cradlepoint Personal WiFi Hotspot, but the reality is that I can get a full 5 or 6 hours off my Notebook computer vs. 2-3 hours from the battery on the Cradlepoint, so if I need to do work with the Notebook, it really makes sense to go that direction. At least to me, the 2.0 version seems to take just a little bit longer to stabilize and be ready for use. The trade-off is that you no longer have to fuss with choosing HOW you are going to get the Internet signal. All that is automagic in the background and just happens. I’ll take the difference!
