One of our favorite media player devices has always been the Zune HD. Some of the features we loved were the speed, screen and weight of the mp3 player too. Despite being a great device the Zune HD and the Original Zune never really set the world on fire, however its existence was not in vain. Anyone that looks at a Windows Phone 7 device knows it received some influence from the Zune HD. None of these features could save the Zune line. Bloomberg.com is reporting that Microsoft will not be releasing any new models of Zune.

There was a a Zune Software update that hit today. All Windows Phone 7 users are patiently waiting for the first update that will include Copy and Paste. The early rumors had the Phone update coming in February 7th but that did not turn out to be the case. However, with a Zune software update coming at this point that has to mean that the Phone 7 update is around the corner. According to wpcentral.com there were two files that were updated.
ZuneWmdu.dll and ZuneWmduResources.dll. are both now v4.7.1407. Microsoft’s support page in fact mentions these as need for the software backup:
There was rumor of a new feature in the Zune Software that would backup devices before they were updated. Looking at the associated KB article on Microsoft’s website, it appears these new files are the implementation of this new backup feature.
