Verizon Announces Pre-Paid Data Plans for 3G Smartphones

by Rod on September 3, 2010

Verizon Logo

You understand upfront that using pre-paid plans cost more than having a contract.  It is huge that Verizon is providing pre-paid data plans for 3G smartphone devices like Android and BlackBerry. Unlimited data is $30 per month contract free for smartphones.  Feature phones have plans of $10 for 25MB per month. That is a good deal.

The press release below lays out the devices that will support pre-paid data plans.  To take advantage of these plans you have to go to a Verizon store, but the will be available for online purchase on September 28th. The only downside is you are buying these phones for the no contract price.  Considering the Amazon deals on smartphones I would consider a contract to ge my phone 1¢. [click to continue…]

Bing for Mobile Comes to Verizon Android

by Brent on August 31, 2010

Bing on Android

Wait! Verizon? Yes, you heard me correctly. If you are not running a Verizon phone, you cannot load this amazing app at this point in time. One of the things I have always loved about Bing is the visual showcase you get every time you start the app. You are always presented with some graphically stunning view that you get to try to identify and puzzle over. Well, the mobile app leaves nothing lacking there, at least if you run it from the app, as opposed to running the widget. The app homepage features the Bing image of the day, complete with clickable hotspots that you can explore and discover related trivia.  Did you miss one of the latest images? Don’t worry; you can still swipe through up to 7 days’ worth of Bing images. [click to continue…]

Still No Evidence of Verizon Getting A Windows Phone 7 Device

by Chris on August 19, 2010

Post image for Still No Evidence of Verizon Getting A Windows Phone 7 Device

We have seen a lot of leaked information over the last few weeks pertaining to Windows Phone 7. The one leak, that still has not happened yet, is a Phone 7 device for Verizon. I am really starting to wonder if Verizon won’t be a part of the Windows Phone 7 launch. On one hand, this would not surprise me looking back at the Kin debacle. There must be some bad feelings between Microsoft and Verizon. However, Microsoft should make it work no matter what. It is clearly a benefit for Windows Phone 7 to be on as many carriers as possible.

Is Verizon Lying About The DROID?

by Chris on August 2, 2010

Post image for Is Verizon Lying About The DROID?

This week the first DROID also known as DROID does, is getting updated to Android 2.2. But it seems that Verizon is leaving out two of the popular features, tethering and mobile hotspot. Now normally a carrier leaves out a feature and we don’t really say much. We complain then move on. However when Verizon gives us their reason for why these features are missing we have to take a deeper look. I have a feeling that some of us feel like we are being lied too.

Droid X Users Consume 5x the Data of Other Verizon SmartPhone

by Rod on July 22, 2010

Motorola Droid X

I have to check with my friends running the Droid X to see if any of them got grand fathered into the Verizon unlimited data plan.  I am not saying Verizon has found their iPhone but with a single device consuming the data of 5 smartphone devices that is an impressive statistic.  Considerng the Droid X and Droid Incredible are similar except for the front facing camera and screen size you have to suspect these two features account the the usage patterns.  Ok lets be honest the screen size is the reason for the insane usage.  Still impressive!

Verizon business development executive director Jennifer Byrne:

—On data consumption: “On Droid X, we’re seeing something like 5x the data usage of any other device.”

Verizon Following AT&T Into Tiered Data Plans

by Chris on July 21, 2010

Post image for Verizon Following AT&T Into Tiered Data Plans

After months of speculation it seems that Verizon is finally joining AT&T into the tiered data plans for mobile phones. The full details have not been released yet but you would expect it to be exactly the same as AT&T. This means that the highest data package is 2 gigs for 25 dollars. that there will be some smaller packages underneath that. If they follow AT&T to the letter than that will also mean that if you go over your 2 gigs the next GB of data will cost you 10 bucks.

Post image for Verizon Admits Motorola Droid X Issue

Not sure why companies are rushing phones out the door before they are ready but here we are again. Yesterday Verizon confirmed that a small amount of Droid X phones are having a screen issue. According to Gizmodo.com some Droid X owners are experiencing screen flickering and banding. Apparently the issue has already been solved by Motorola.

Verizon to get iPhone in January 2011?

by Chris on June 29, 2010

Post image for Verizon to get iPhone in January 2011?

According to an article on msnbc.com, the iPhone is going to Verizon in January. Apparently Bloomberg news scooped the story. Bloomberg said that they have confirmed the information with two different sources. We have heard these rumors for a while and they have never panned out. But I don’t remember it ever coming from a site like Bloomberg. My hope is that the iPhone goes to Verizon and then the Verizon network goes into the toilet. The only thing that could mess up my dreams is the new LTE rollout next year.

Motorola Droid X Looks Pretty Nice

by Chris on June 15, 2010

Post image for Motorola Droid X Looks Pretty Nice

Verizon did not take long getting a phone to combat Sprint’s HTC EVO. The rumors have been flowing over the DROID X and now engadget.com has some pictures of the phone plus an early look. From the shots the phone looks super thin but MASSIVE! HTC has been doing their thing with the Android phones so I can't wait to see what they come up with for Phone 7.
