No you can buy without a contract for $480, I would check if the break contract fee is the standard $350 when making a decision to buy under contract.

Viewsonic 10 Pro

Looks like ViewSonic decided to step up their tablet production by introducing three new tablets at IFA 2011 which are all due to hit stores before the end of the year.  First up is the 10” ViewPad 10Pro, which is a dual booting Android 2.3 Gingerbread/Windows 7 wifi only slate device currently scheduled to come to market September 5th for 499 euros (currently $712 US).  Next up is the ViewPad 7x, which is a 8gb 7” dual core Tegra 2 tablet that will be running Honeycomb.  There is no exact release date for the scheduled 7x but it should be released within the next month for a rumored price of $499.  Lastly there is a budget minded ViewPad 7e that is rumored to a 7” Android tablet for around $250.

16 GB HP TouchPad for $100 at Barnes and Nobile

HP TouchPad

If you are still trying to hunt down the HP TouchPad Barnes and Nobile has the 16 GB model for $101.95. If you are wondering the 32GB model has not seen a price cut at B&N as of yet. This will likely be the best bargain Android tablet you can buy because developers are actively working to port Android to the TouchPad so this could be a nice investment. HP is taking a huge loss on these devices. This would be the perfect loss leader tablet to have in retail stores if the component cost could come down closer to $200 vs $300 where is is today.

If you are on the fence don’t wait long as these tablets are selling fast.

Android Tablet Homescreen

There is a art to organizing the home screens on your smartphone and tablets. I would go as far as to say, you can learn a lot about a person based on how they organize their home screens. One look at my iPad and you know I search for apps vs. organize and my kids likely use the iPad more than the adults. In contrast, one look at the Honeycomb or iPad screens below and you can tell these guys enjoy organizing their apps and home screens for efficiency in accessing apps.

10-Inch BlackBerry PlayBook Cancelled

Word on the street is that Research in Motion has cancelled development of the 10-inch BlackBerry PlayBook in order to put more production focus on the QNX powered BlackBerry that is supposed to come out in early 2012.  QNX is the next-generation BlackBerry operating system currently found running on the the BlackBerry PlayBook.  RIM may be also pushing the 4G LTE  variant of the BlackBerry PlayBook which is rumored to be coming out in October.

RIM has really been taking it on the chin lately when compared to the iPhone, Android, and even Windows Phone 7, and, there is really no sign of relief in site that includes devices other than BlackBerry handsets running QNX and their isn’t any relief in sight.  The big question for RIM is if BlackBerry 7 can tread water long enough for QNX superphones to make their debut.

Don’t Accidentally Delete PlayBook Apps When Trying to Update

BlackBerry PlayBook App World Update Dialog

You may want to be careful when updating applications on the BlackBerry PlayBook because from time-to-time the upgrade button switches location. The PlayBook does not have an Update All button, thus you need to manually scroll the list and select which apps to upgrade. Usually the Upgrade button is located out on the left side making tap, scroll, tap, scroll and easy process. This swapping of the upgrade and delete button causes people to accidentally delete apps they intended to upgrade.
