ViewSonic’s ViewPad 7 will officially be available in the US this month. The 7-inch tablet is powered by 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 512 RAM, and running Android 2.2. As expected the tablet has dual camera’s (front/rear) for video chat. The only problem is the price is $479. For $20 more I can have the iPad and all the benefits. While the tablet will have the Android Market and Google Apps preloaded that will not overshadow the pricing issue.
On the other hand you have the ViewPad 10 which wil dual boot Android 1.6 and Windows 7. It sounds like a train wreck designed for ober geeks and not the general consumer but it is planned for Q1 2011. The ViewPad 10 will cost $629. The ViewPad 10 had better hardware specs 1.66 GHz Atom processor, 16 GB SSD, 1 GB RAM. I may give the 10 device a look but doubt I will purchase. [click to continue…]

Oh look, it took Spint, a retailer without a vested interest in Apple products, to provide customers access to the Galaxy Tab at a reasonable price.
The Galaxy Tab 3G model will be on sale at Sprint Stores on November 14th $399.99 with a 2 year service agreement. Did I say we finally have a reasonable price point. Unless you have been living under a rock you have likely heard about the Android Powered Galaxy Tablet. It has a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, front/rear facing cameras, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and a 16GB Micro SD Card for storage. All I can say is if you are looking for the Galaxy Tab forget Verizon, Sprint is the natural choice.
Oh yeah Pre-Order Now

The hope of success of the Galaxy Tab at Best Buy, considering it is priced the same as the iPad, will be the demo. One can only hope Best Buy will allow you to video conference between multiple Galaxy Tabs in the store to show off a feature the iPad is lacking. Keep in mind you will be able to talk a couple steps and see the iPad and Galaxy Tab since both are sold at Best Buy. I am personally waiting for the iPad with video call capabilities. Once released I will buy 3, 1 for my parents, 1 for my sister, and 1 for my house so we can share the grand kids via video chat.
To compete with the iPad the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab needed to come in under the iPad price. The Wi-Fi- only Galaxy Tab is $499 vs the 3G model on Verizon for $599. Sorry to say but a smaller screen and less apps is not exactly going to make the Galaxy Tab a winner at this price point.

I can only think Samsung was sold down the river by Verizon to get the iPad in stores. I cannot think of logical way to explain how you would price the Samsung Galaxy Tab at $600. When you can buy and iPad + WiFi bundle for $630 why would you even look at the Galaxy Tab? I am ignoring the fact the iPad starts at $499. I can only guess Verizon made a deal with the devil Apple that no tablet would be priced around the iPad. Steve Jobs said it best, this 7-inch Tablet is D.O.A. (dead on arrival), thanks to Verizon pricing. As if it matters the Galaxy Tab will be in stores November 11th with data plans starting at $20.
There was hope for this Tablet, thank you Verizon for killing the Galaxy Tab! [click to continue…]
First and likely the best news is the Samsung Galaxy Tab will come in a Wi-Fi only model which allows it to compete on a level playing field with the iPad Wi-Fi model. Now the real nes is all four major US carriers (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile) will be sell the 7-inch Galaxy Tab. The device will hit in the Oct / November timeframe which is going to be perfect for a holiday gift. The Galaxy Tab is sporting a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, Android 2.2, 1024×600 WSVGA display, along with front and rear cameras. Sounds like the holiday season will not be a slam dunk for Apple’s iPad. Check out the video after the break [click to continue…]
The Wall St. Journal is reporting that Samsung will announce its Galaxy Tab for the US on September 16, and that it is likely that Samsung will be releasing it with Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T as partners. There’s still no official word on the US price point, but speculation is centering on somewhere between $200 and $300. [click to continue…]
Earlier today Samsung made the official annoucement of the 7-inch Android powered Galaxy Tab. The device looks to be the next popular Android device but we know this changes on a weekly basis. If you are wondering the devices does have a front and rear facing camer so video chat is an option. If you listen to the tech press a 7-inch device seems to be ideal for use as it has optimal weight for and eReader.
The Galaxy Tab will not be available until October 11th. Pricing currently in Europe ranging from €699 ($890) to €799 ($1,020). UK Pricing appears to be £680 ($1,050). [click to continue…]
Let’s go down the list here, in order of size. All of these devices will ship with Android 2.2, and they’ve also all got microphones and accelerometers. However, perhaps fatally, these tablets (like some others) do not have access to the App Marketplace. You’ll get your “custom-sized” apps through Archos’ AppsLib, which doesn’t sound like fun. The number of apps is limited and doesn’t update often, although you can usually find most of the most popular available. Google apps will also not be present, which means you’ll have Archos’ replacements for maps, music, and so on. Now, this can be resolved by rooting the devices, and then side-loading the Google apps, but it is a pain and these devices are chronically under-powered. Nevertheless, if you you want is a decent large-screen media player or ebook reader, at the price, any of these might do nicely.

The ViewSonic view pad is a 7-inch Android 2.2 powered tablet with phone capabilities. The tablet/phone has front and rear facing camera’s which are great for taking pictures or doing video chat. The device has a full size SIM slot so you can go from your day-to-day phone into the device and have voice and data available, assuming no subscriber tricks. It does not have a ear piece for voice calls so you will need to use a bluetooth headset like the Plantronics Voyager Pro or stay wire with the VModa Vibe II. The technical specs are not in the release but if Engadget is correct this only has a 600MHz ARM processor as it is the OlivePad rebranded. Hopefully this is incorrect. Please be incorrect. Press Release after the break. [click to continue…]
