Although I currently use a Verizon Droid as my phone, for 366 days I carried a Blackberry 9530, the Storm. During that year, I reloaded my OS 19 times, by count. And most of those times, the OS was shrunk. What does that mean, shrunk? It means that I physically removed the Java code files that were there for programs that I did not need or intend to use, thereby reducing the amount of memory consumed by the OS and freeing up additional memory for me to use to load 3rd party applications. There are a few different routes you can take to get a movie on your phone. The main two are to buy them from various vendors or you can create them. I spend a lot of time bashing the iPhone most likely because I am just good at it. I pride myself on honesty and there are a few useful applications. Let us be clear, if some of them were available on other platforms I may not have used it on the iPhone however, that is not the case. When I dropped my iPhone to transition to the Blackberry Storm, I spent the first several months trying to find applications for the blackberry that gave me the same simplistic information I got on the iPhone. Even being 2 years removed from using the iPhone as my primary day to day phone, I still miss the built-in Calendar, Stocks, Weather, and Maps. A few weeks back I mentioned the fact that I am getting more into listening to podcasts. My favorite show is the Lavar Arrington Show on CBS Radio. Thanks to Rod’s suggestion I started listening to Windows Weekly too. Windows Phone, despite the existing install base, does not have many great podcasting apps. Traditionally, most people would use a Zune or iPod, but Rod pointed out all the benefits of a podcasting app that can leverage your mobile phones data plan (See 10 Reason’s Podtrapper is Blackberry Gold). I have gone through several apps and today I am using YomoMedia for Windows Mobile. Finally an application developer built an app for Windows Phone that has a fantastic interface.

$1 is not a lot of money. In fact $1 per month for something I would use daily on multiple devices is not much to ask. LastPass provides password management cross platform and cross devices. Today, I use 1Password and Roboform for password management. 1Password is restricted to Apple’s platforms (Mac and iPhone). Roboform is restricted to Windows on the desktop (for now I am ignoring the Online option) but runs on multiple mobile platforms such as Windows Phone, Blackberry, Palm, Symbian, and iPhone.

I too have recently upgraded from a notebook with embedded Verizon EVDO to one that does not have this ability internally. I had to make the decision of USB vs. MiFi. For me, the decision became a lot easier with a chance discovery. In the Fall of 2007, when I first started evaluating Windows 7 seriously, one of the proposed functions was the ability to support virtual WiFi connections. In the same way modern OS platforms support virtual Operating Systems (with virtual Network adapters), Microsoft proposed to support virtual network connections in the Core OS.

What happened guys? You used to be beautiful. This is a painful article for me to type but one that needs to be done. I was recently complaining that part of the reason that people have this bad view of Windows Mobile is the fact that developers are abandoning it. For example when the Slingbox first came out I jumped all over it. I was the first in my circle to get one. Add in the fact that SlingMedia came up with a client for Windows Mobile and you are talking about a killer gadget. The interface for the time was fine nothing different than any other Windows Mobile app. But then, enter in the Sling Player Mobile app for the iPhone.
