Post image for Tolerating Windows Media Player Mobile

So a while back I wrote an article about how bad Windows Media Player Mobile stunk. I set out to find a replacement media app and found Mobile Media Center. The other day I began thinking, if there are a lot of people like me, than most of them will just stick with Windows Media Mobile until it gets better. So this prompted me to find a way to make it more tolerable.

Desktop Password Managers on Mobile

$1 is not a lot of money. In fact $1 per month for something I would use daily on multiple devices is not much to ask. LastPass provides password management cross platform and cross devices. Today, I use 1Password and Roboform for password management. 1Password is restricted to Apple’s platforms (Mac and iPhone). Roboform is restricted to Windows on the desktop (for now I am ignoring the Online option) but runs on multiple mobile platforms such as Windows Phone, Blackberry, Palm, Symbian, and iPhone.

For all the Windows Mobile folks there is the Windows Market Place for Mobile to get Apps for your phone. Before Windows Market Place for Mobile existed there was Handango, and currently they are extending their Year end blowout sale. So if you were hesitant about getting something from them maybe this will put you over the top. Happy New Year.

Microsoft is making it very hard to be a Windows Mobile Proponent.

What happened guys? You used to be beautiful. This is a painful article for me to type but one that needs to be done. I was recently complaining that part of the reason that people have this bad view of Windows Mobile is the fact that developers are abandoning it. For example when the Slingbox first came out I jumped all over it. I was the first in my circle to get one. Add in the fact that SlingMedia came up with a client for Windows Mobile and you are talking about a killer gadget. The interface for the time was fine nothing different than any other Windows Mobile app. But then, enter in the Sling Player Mobile app for the iPhone.

Some Smartphone Honesty.

Today I read another article telling us that Microsoft blew the Smartphone market and apple is winning it. I don’t mind reading these articles but I wish someone would have an original thought on the subject. The article stated that they had the ability to take control but let Apple come in and create a phone geared to the consumer vs. the enterprise. They continued to read about the brilliance of Apple in the design of the iPhone. I question whether Apple was really that brilliant.

How to Travel Stress Free

by Brent on December 29, 2009 · 6 comments

Like others, I find myself traveling nearly every week for work. If you are like me, it all starts to blur together and occasionally I have an epic fail! A few weeks ago, I left a client site just a little bit short on time to make my flight to yet another city and another client. Imagine my shock when I arrived to check-in and found that my flight had already boarded and was ready to go. I had confused the departure time due to timezone issues, as well as not paying attention. At that moment, I decided I had better take control or I would experience the same again and again.

Get control over battery use on your smartphone

There are days I feel like a professional traveler, but the reality is I only do it as a needed aspect of my job.  I am always looking for new gadgets that make my life easier.  Every universal or all-in-one gadget comes with a downside and in recent times, that has been battery life.  With my iPhone, it was great because it was an all in one media player, mobile phone, GPS device and more, but the downside was landing with a virtually dead battery after a short business flight.

Windows Mobile Is Definitely Useful

As I sit here wondering if my local gym is open, I realized that for the first time in my life I wasn’t concerned if my media player (ZuneHD) was charged or not. For the last week I have been taking my HTC Tilt 2 into the gym with me instead of my ZuneHD. Now, many of you may be thinking that this is no big deal I have been using my phone as a media player for years and years. Well good for you, I haven’t! As you will find out, over time, I am very much a creature of habit.  I always separated my media listening from my phone even though the capabilities were there, but have recently bridged the gap some. The credit for this is twofold:

Is Auto Correct making you spell like a child

by Rod on December 18, 2009 · 5 comments

“Auto complete/spell checking” on mobile devices is an essential need.  Each of the major vendors (Microsoft, Research in Motion, Apple, and Google) have implemented spell checking slightly different.  The focus is always on usability with the way auto complete/spell checking works.  Which vendor has the best method is a matter of debate, and at the end, it comes down to personal preference.  Regardless of the way it has been implemented, we have all seen the funny message via email or text that looks to be written by a 1st grader.  So to account for these “features”, users have adjusted to put disclaimers in email signature tags like; [click to continue…]

Mobile Media Center Rocks the House for Windows Mobile

If you are like me, a staunch supporter of Windows Mobile, you get frustrated when things do not work right. I hate giving the Apple tools any reason to talk crap about Windows Mobile (Windows Phone). Now with the Motorola  DROID coming along we really need to stick together. With that being said, I cannot ignore how much Windows Media Player Mobile Sucks! In my search for a solid replacement, I was surprised to see that sometimes less is more. Enter Mobile Media Center.
