There are many new phones coming out over the next few weeks however, we wanted to peek at two of the hottest Smartphones on different platforms.
For Android users the Motorola Droid Razr is definite the phone to get while on Windows Phone 7 the HTC Titan seems to be the choice phone for many people.
Looking at the hardware alone the Droid Razr clearly is the better device. While the HTC Titan is bigger, the Razr has a higher screen resolution, faster processor, and LTE support you just have to give that to the RAZR. On the other hand, when we include the operating systems, I believe it evens the phones up a bit, because Windows Phone 7 is one of the smoothest and fastest mobile operating systems and I also don’t believe that the Android OS and the apps that run on it are completely optimized to use multi-cores.

If you’ve been following phones at all recently, then you know that Verizon is releasing a trifecta of amazing Android phones in November with the Motorola Droid Razr, HTC Rezound, and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The folks at Verizon were kind enough to send us the HTC Rezound before its release on Monday, and I’ve had it to play with all weekend. Follow along for the full review, but let me give you just one spoiler; this phone is awesome!

Verizon is really playing up the marketing of the Motorola Droid Razr with today’s date. At 11:11 today 11/11/11 the highly anticipated Droid Razr goes on sale. If you look past all the silliness of the marketing the phone is actually an awesome piece of hardware however being biased towards Windows Phone I cannot say much about the OS. The Razr’s dimensions are 5.15(h) x 2.71(w) x 0.28(d) inches making it one of the thinnest phones out. The dual core processor, water repellent board and the 4G LTE radio make it an attractive phone for power users. This device will be running Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) which you can bet will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich as soon as possible.

Apple has released the much awaited iOS 5.01, which should address the battery issues many users are experiencing. Hopefully it also covers the recent security exploit highlighted by Charlie Miller. Additionally this update should address multi touch gestures on the original iPad, bugs with iCould documents, voice recognition for Australian users using dictation.
This is the first time you are able to update your iOS device OTA (over the air). Over WiFi this update took about 1 minutes from clicking the button until it rebooted and started the install. The install itself was completed in 3-4 minutes. I remain connected to power, just in case. If you have not received and update you can force a check by going to Settings | General | Software Update.

The countdown officially begins for the best Windows Phone 7 device’s release date and if you have not listened to the SMRPodcast then I will simply inform you that we are speaking of the HTC Titan. This phone is the 4.7-inch beast that I fully intend on owning on day one. While we are not quite sure why it did not release on November 6 however all is forgiven. The HTC Titan will sell for 199.99 on contract and will get you a 1.5GHz processor and a WVGA Super LCD screen.
You can see the announcement on AT&T’s website.

Both Rod and Chris attended the Windows Phone event in New York on Monday and Tuesday and I think the phone that they both liked the most was the 4.7-inch HTC Titan.
According to the @HTCUSA Twitter account, AT&T is set to launch the HTC Titan on Nov. 20th for $199.99. Rod just picked up the iPhone 4s, so, he may hold off on the Titan, but, I’d be willing to bet that Chris is already making plans to camp out at the AT&T store just so that he can be first in line to pick his up…
Although we all knew that Skype is coming to Windows Phone 7, it is very cool to have another option for cross platform Video calling moreover an app available today. Tango’s Video chat app will obviously work best on the Samsung Focus S or Flash, the HTC Radar, or the HTC Titan because they all have front facing cameras however, older phones will work with the rear camera. One other feature to note is that Tango indeed works over 2G, 3G and 4G mobile towers.

For those of you looking to save a few dollars, Amazon is selling the new Samsung Windows Phone, the Focus S, it is on sale for $149.99 on contract. Buying the phone from AT&T directly will cost you 199.99. Amazon has the phone listed as backordered but since today is the first day of availability, I am sure that will change soon. The Samsung Focus S is AT&T’s first 4G Windows Phone 7 device and has a front facing camera.

Until now, most people pay a hundred-dollar developer fee for the ability to unlock their Windows Phone 7 device. Developer unlocking your device essentially allows you to install apps that are not coming from the Phone 7 Marketplace. While some people are not happy, that Chevron is charging for this feature I for one say good for them. I never understand why people think someone’s hard work should be free. If you simply go to their site and sign in with your Windows Live ID you can pay the fee and get the ability to unlock your phone. Who knows maybe there will be a Homebrew app store soon?
Why in the hell did they make the iPhone 4S out of glass? That was the single question asked by a friend who dropped her iPhone today from her lap to the floor, a mere 2 1/2 foot drop. She opted for a super slim case that is designed to protect from scratches vs. drops. Given the frequency at which people break the glass on the front or the back of the iPhone and the new AppleCare+ plan, I for one hope that the iPhone 5 moves away from the fragile design. In case you hadn’t heard, Apple considers cracked screens and backs to be ‘cosmetic damage’ and ineligible for replacement.
