Ladies and gentleman the closest event to the rapture of 2010 is about to occur. The Heavens have opened up and a cloud of pixie dust are creating a light dew around the tech world. Do you ever find yourself wishing that the sound from your Smartphone was just a little louder or have you needed to give your notebook PC a boost in volume when doing a presentation? I think we have all been there and in reality, there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of solutions out there. [click to continue…]
What happened guys? You used to be beautiful. This is a painful article for me to type but one that needs to be done. I was recently complaining that part of the reason that people have this bad view of Windows Mobile is the fact that developers are abandoning it. For example when the Slingbox first came out I jumped all over it. I was the first in my circle to get one. Add in the fact that SlingMedia came up with a client for Windows Mobile and you are talking about a killer gadget. The interface for the time was fine nothing different than any other Windows Mobile app. But then, enter in the Sling Player Mobile app for the iPhone.

Today I read another article telling us that Microsoft blew the Smartphone market and apple is winning it. This is one of the reasons we have smartphones with big screens, right? But what a bother to have to sit there and hold the angle just right, or keep it from sliding off the tray table if you lay it flat. The other day my son came home from college and was asking me if I knew about the new charging thing that was wireless. I laughed and said that thing is the Powermat. I told him that I had looked at it but it is not ready for prime time as far as I am concerned. The reality is, this concept is what we have been dreaming about since we were kids. And looks like the guys over at Powermat were able to make it come true. The Powermat is 99.99 both from Best Buy and Powermat.com. The bottom line is this technology has to be built into devices! Having a need to purchase another device to make this work is not very compelling.
Here is a Review of the Powermat.

What’s stopping you? For me, the answer to that question is the keyboard. My current smartphone has a wonder large screen, but even with a slide-out keyboard, it is not conducive to complicated or lengthy text entry. Interestingly enough, I had the same problem with my last phone, a BlackBerry Storm from RIM. Sometime in the past year, I decided to solve that issue in a fashion that had worked (sort of, almost) for me in the past with Windows Mobile phones: use a Bluetooth Keyboard. At that time, I had bought the ThinkOutside Stowaway keyboard. What a marvelous piece of portable engineering.
