Do you ever find yourself wishing that the sound from your Smartphone was just a little louder or have you needed to give your notebook PC a boost in volume when doing a presentation? I think we have all been there and in reality, there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of solutions out there. [click to continue…]
$1 is not a lot of money. In fact $1 per month for something I would use daily on multiple devices is not much to ask. LastPass provides password management cross platform and cross devices. Today, I use 1Password and Roboform for password management. 1Password is restricted to Apple’s platforms (Mac and iPhone). Roboform is restricted to Windows on the desktop (for now I am ignoring the Online option) but runs on multiple mobile platforms such as Windows Phone, Blackberry, Palm, Symbian, and iPhone.

Like others, I find myself traveling nearly every week for work. If you are like me, it all starts to blur together and occasionally I have an epic fail! A few weeks ago, I left a client site just a little bit short on time to make my flight to yet another city and another client. Imagine my shock when I arrived to check-in and found that my flight had already boarded and was ready to go. I had confused the departure time due to timezone issues, as well as not paying attention. At that moment, I decided I had better take control or I would experience the same again and again.

I got a call from my friend saying his new Blackberry Curve was receiving duplicate emails. I was confused as he explained how all emails, not just some, were duplicated. My spidey sense started to tingle and I wanted to call shenanigans because the BS meter had reached an all-time high, but I held back. I told him to bring it over and I would take a look at it.

There are days I feel like a professional traveler, but the reality is I only do it as a needed aspect of my job. I am always looking for new gadgets that make my life easier. Every universal or all-in-one gadget comes with a downside and in recent times, that has been battery life. With my iPhone, it was great because it was an all in one media player, mobile phone, GPS device and more, but the downside was landing with a virtually dead battery after a short business flight.

This is one of the reasons we have smartphones with big screens, right? But what a bother to have to sit there and hold the angle just right, or keep it from sliding off the tray table if you lay it flat. So, probably just like you, I have searched for a workable method of solving this. Earlier this year, I purchased a contraption made out of plastic that you could fold into a stand for your Smartphone, Touch, etc. It held the screen at a reasonable angle, and as it had a rubberized feel, it didn’t slip too much. The phone wide search in Android 2.0 has built into it a fantastic voice dialer. To be clear, it is a general phone wide search app that takes voice commands. The beauty is the commands accepts statements like Call John Doe Mobile and as it should, it dials the number without delay just like a blackberry.

RIM RIM RIM RIM. I loved when I had your service but I won’t miss your outages. Welcome BlackBerry users back online. Information from cio.com and rimarkable.com.
“A service interruption occurred Tuesday that affected BlackBerry customers in the Americas. Message delivery was delayed or intermittent during the service interruption. Phone service and SMS services on BlackBerry smartphones were unaffected. Root cause is currently under review, but based on preliminary analysis, it currently appears that the issue stemmed from a flaw in two recently released versions of BlackBerry Messenger (versions 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56) that caused an unanticipated database issue within the BlackBerry infrastructure. RIM has taken corrective action to restore service.
“RIM has also provided a new version of BlackBerry Messenger (version 5.0.0.57) and is encouraging anyone who downloaded or upgraded BlackBerry Messenger since December 14th to upgrade to this latest version which resolves the issue. RIM continues to monitor its systems to maintain normal service levels and apologizes for any inconvenience to customers.”
The other day my son came home from college and was asking me if I knew about the new charging thing that was wireless. I laughed and said that thing is the Powermat. I told him that I had looked at it but it is not ready for prime time as far as I am concerned. The reality is, this concept is what we have been dreaming about since we were kids. And looks like the guys over at Powermat were able to make it come true. The Powermat is 99.99 both from Best Buy and Powermat.com. The bottom line is this technology has to be built into devices! Having a need to purchase another device to make this work is not very compelling.
Here is a Review of the Powermat.
