Barnes and Noble sent out invites for a Nook event scheduled to be held on November 7th, but with no other details beyond the fact that they would be announcing something new. New leaks confirm the rumors that B&N would be announcing a NOOK tablet set to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Continue reading past the break for full pricing and specs.

When the Motorola Droid Razr was announced last month, we learned the specs for this amazing phone, a pre-order date, but were not given a hard release date. I don’t know about you, but I think that there are few things worse than pre-ordering something without knowing when I’m going to actually have it in my hands.

Barnes and Noble sent out invitations to the media about a “very special announcement” to happen on November 7th in New York City. This seems to confirm the rumors about the Nook Color 2 launching soon that began circulating over the weekend. We still don’t know any details about B&N’s latest, but if they hope to compete with the Fire, they will need to at least match the technical specs and $199 price tag of Amazon’s new eReader/tablet. Barnes and Noble may be the world’s largest book seller, but I think that they will be hard pressed to compete with Amazon’s ecosystem in other areas. If they can garner the support of Google and the Android Marketplace, they may just have a chance at competing with Amazon. As a Nook user, myself, I can hardly wait to see what Barnes and Noble has up its sleeves. Stay tuned for all of the details next week after the press conference.

On Windows Phone, there is no obvious way to pin system settings like Bluetooth, WiFi, or Airplane Mode to the screen. With Android, you can use a widget, which allows you to toggle these settings on/off with the tap of a finger. Additionally, you can use a shortcut on Android to access this setting so you can connect to a Bluetooth or WiFi device. This same functionality is available on Windows Phone with Network Dashboard, Connectivity Shortcuts, Connection Tiles, or Toggle.

Android tablet users rejoice! Five months ago Netflix released its first Android app, but it was only for a small number of devices. Since then, a few updates have come out, adding more and more devices. Many people, however, including tablet owners, were forced to either install the .APK from other phones, or wait on Netflix’s indulgence. Luckily for us, Netflix has finally given us an official version that runs on any tablets 3.0+. I have tested it out, and was able to stream movies to my Motorola Xoom. It works, but no better than the leaked phone .APKs, so hopefully Netflix will optimize the app for larger screens, soon. If you’ve been waiting for Netflix to run on your Honeycomb tablet, you can get the official version here.

During the SMRPodcast I sat aside and listened to the Samsung Google Announcement. Here is what they said and more important what I was thinking as an Android fan.

We received a tip from and iOS user that you can place a call from the an iPhone running iOS 5 lock screen without entering the passcode. I have verified this with two on other phone running iOS. If you have a missed call on the locked screen you can slide to call. The desire is to require a passcode unlock prior to making any calls but this is not the case.
I was digging around looking for a setting to disable this behavior but could not find one. This seems to be a security issue that Apple will need to fix.
[Thanks for the Tip Neil]
