The T-Mobile G2 has long since been rooted, but seems a bug prevented the method from sticking. (T-Mobile originally called this a feature, but Cyanogen called foul on that one. Looks like he was right after all.) After that, the guys at XDA-Developers had come up with solutions to automatically root the phones every time it’s rebooted, and a one-click solution came along to make that process even easier. Now, full and permanent root has been achieved. The breakthrough can probably be attributed to the source code being made public by HTC. Of course, they have to take this and make it available for all, so be a little patient. Looks like it will work not only on the T-Mobile G2, but on the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z as well. Guys, welcome to permanent root! Check out the details at XDA.

No doubt that the Windows Phone 7 device that I am running with is the HTC Surround. I have it ordered already and it should be here Monday or Tuesday. To be safe, I am also going to get the Samsung Focus on Monday too. Unfortunately everyone has been beating up the Surround. Folks like Paul Thurrott and Engadget, had very little good to say about my phone. All that has changed now. The site wpcentral.com gave the Surround a pretty good review. Now I now they are biased like I would be but I am sure if the phone was terrible they would say it.

The first Windows Phone 7 device that I ordered was the HTC Surround. I will get the Samsung Focus too but I like the cool features of a phone. And having a slide out speaker with a kickstand qualifies as cool. There are a lot of reviews that exist out there but you never know which one to give credence to. That is what we are here for. Here is a video from phonearena.com that compares the HTC Surround to the iPhone 4. And Windows Phone fan should come away from this really happy. While the obvious missing features were mentioned they were not dwelled on. The really took note to talk about the features that most people care about.

I have liked HTC devices for many years not and they are putting it down for Windows Phone 7 releasing the HD7, Mozart, and Trophy all for Oct 21 debut in Europe. There is not an Android phone that has stats these phone will envy. The Mozart and Trophy both have 1 GHz processors, 8GB built-in storage. 720p HD recording, 576 RAM.
The HTC Pro will becoming to Sprint and will have similar specs but will have 16GB of storage. Never count Microsoft out. All of a sudden I don’t really want another Android device.

Here is a great look at Need For Speed on the HTC Surround. And when I say the game looks ridiculous, it might be an understatement. I was wondering what the load time would be for some of these games and I am happy to say that this game did not seem that long. The video was done by wpcentral.com. The game play was very similar to an XBOX game where you watch the movie then play the game. The movie graphics looked great too. I am sure that some games will take a little longer to load but hey if you want a quality game then you have to sacrifice a little.

Beside making great phones HTC is also popular for their Sense UI. HTC’s user interface runs on top of most HTC phones. The sense UI creates a familiar experience no matter what device you are using. Microsoft is not allowing UI’s on top of Windows Phone 7. But, using a Hub for a unique experience is. Hubs are like widgets on Android except they are the main stay on the screen. There have been some leaked videos with HTC’s Sense on Windows Phone 7 already but I guess they were only prototpes

I stopped using the Sense UI a long time ago. Not that it was bad, it just wasn’t for me. HTC has a video showing off the HTC Desire HD with an updated HTC Sense UI. And I have to admit, this new version is pretty banging. Some of the features they pointed out in the new version are a mapping map with the ability to upgrade to a full turn-by-turn version. It also has photo sharing built in which allows you to send them to Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and others.

Lucky me I give my wife the HTC Incredible and low and behold she gets the update notification early. Before going to bed tonight she tells me the phone told her several days ago there was an update available. I always manually updated my phones, but she who could careless about the update is getting it pushed to her phone. I have to check is RIMarkable Robb is getting the update notification.
If you are a Droid Incredible user you will be happy to know the update is not moving out to mass deployment. If you have not received the update yet you can manually install or just wait for the notification. Either way enjoy Froyo. [click to continue…]

The Verizon support Twitter account, @VZWSupport, sent out and update the the HTC Incredible would start getting Android 2.2 today (8/27/2010). This means that the manual update instructions will be coming shortly once the file hits the Google servers. For those that rooted this is a non event, but for the vast majority of users this update will give the users access to many great new features. If you cannot wait for the update keep you eye open for the manual install instructions because the staged rollout can take a week or more to hit many handsets.
