</p><p>HTC, which has been supporting their developers for some time by creating a developer site which can unlock the phones bootloader and more devices have been added to the list. While carriers are more inclined to keep <a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/category/smartphones/android/" target="_blank">Android Phones</a> from being modified, it has not stopped the desire for advanced users and developers from wanting to tinker with their phones. The method usually used to protect the phone from being modified is to lock the bootloader however, HTC allows some of their devices to be unlocked.</p>
<p><span id="more-22332"></span></p>
<p>The following devices have been added to the list:</p>
<ul>
<li>T-Mobile G2</li>
<li>HTC Aria</li>
<li>HTC Desire Z</li>
<li>HTC ChaCha</li>
<li>Droid Incredible</li>
<li>HTC Status</li>
</ul>
<p>If you want to unlock the bootloader on your device you can go to <a href="http://htcdev.com/bootloader/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">HTC’s website</a> and see if your phone is in the list. Next follow the instructions to unlock your device.</p>

</p><p>Everything about the camera on the HTC Titan has been perfect so far until Jerome from <a href="http://www.wingadgetnews.com" target="_blank">wingadgetnews.com</a> came across a <a href="http://www.wingadgetnews.com/treasured-family-videos-silent-movie-era-style/" target="_blank">video recording bug</a>. It seems while recording a recording, if the phone rings, the audio is lost from the recording. When testing this on the Samsung Focus S Windows Phone, the device kept recording without issue. Both devices shut off the video if you actually answer the call so it seems that if you are recording something important you may want to switch on Airplane mode.</p>

</p><p>I am now into my 3rd day of using my <a href="http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B0068PZQT6?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=Simple03b-20" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">HTC Titan</a> and I must tell you it has been an absolute pleasure. Prior to Black Friday, I had been using my Samsung Focus <a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/category/smartphones/windows-phone/" target="_blank">Windows Phone</a> since it launched a little over a year ago. I have been very pleased with my Focus and had planned to purchase the new Samsung Focus S however, once I held the HTC Titan in my hands at the Windows Phone Inner Circle event in Washington D. C., I knew this was the device for me. Since that day, I have been anxiously waiting for AT&amp;T to release the HTC Titan and now that I have it, the Titan has not disappointed.</p>
<p><span id="more-21594"></span></p>
<h2>Display</h2>
<p>I must admit I was a little worried about the 4.7” display coupled with the Windows Phone 800&#215;480 (WVGA) screen resolution as many reviewers have reported pixilation issues with the Titan. Most of these reports come from tech writers that have never used the <a href="http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B0068PZQT6?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=Simple03b-20" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">HTC Titan</a>. In my usage, I have not noticed any pixilation at all. The Titan’s Super LCD display is absolutely gorgeous and bright. When I showed the Titan to my wife, it was the brightness of the display, not the size that she noticed first. So don’t believe the negative reports, go to your local AT&amp;T store and see for yourself. I would recommend you do a side by side with the Samsung Focus S to see how the Titan’s Super LCD compares to the Super AMOLED Plus.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B0068PZQT6?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=Simple03b-20" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">HTC Titan</a> is smooth and snappy when navigating the Metro interface. The bump to a 1.5 GHz processor is a nice enhancement to an already fast user experience which current Windows Phone users are accustomed to seeing. Everything with the Titan seems fast and smooth. Apps and videos load very fast. I have heard of some reports of stuttering video and games, but so far I have not had that experience.</p>
<h2>Battery life</h2>
<p>The Battery life so far has been good in my opinion in fact, as I write this review, it has been 6 hours since my last charge and I still have 74% of battery life remaining. Today’s usage has been listening to a podcast, checking email, texting, and a few phone calls. I will continue to monitor battery life, but for now, it seems to be more than adequate.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image002.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="clip_image002" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image002_thumb.jpg" alt="clip_image002" width="148" height="244" border="0" /></a></p>
<h2>Using The Titan’s Camera</h2>
<p>The HTC Titan is fitted with two cameras. An 8mp camera with dual LED lights in the rear and a 1.3mp front facing camera. I do not know anything about cameras but I think the Titan takes some amazing pictures. There are also some notable new features added to the camera application. This first is the “Panorama Shot” which automates taking panoramic pictures. Another new feature to the camera app is the “Burst Shots” which allows for a burst of five shots to capture action photos. Finally, there is “Face Detection” which allows for easy “people tagging” in photos. I have included pictures using the Panorama and Burst features taken in very low light.</p>
<p><strong>Panoramic Shot</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image004.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="clip_image004" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image004_thumb.jpg" alt="clip_image004" width="628" height="216" border="0" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Regular Shots</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image006.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="clip_image006" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image006_thumb.jpg" alt="clip_image006" width="291" height="219" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image008.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="clip_image008" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image008_thumb.jpg" alt="clip_image008" width="291" height="219" border="0" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image010.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="clip_image010" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image010_thumb.jpg" alt="clip_image010" width="293" height="221" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image012.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="clip_image012" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image012_thumb.jpg" alt="clip_image012" width="293" height="221" border="0" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image014.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="clip_image014" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/clip_image014_thumb.jpg" alt="clip_image014" width="293" height="221" border="0" /></a></p>
<h2>Making Phone Calls</h2>
<p>The HTC Titan’s phone quality has been good. During the 3 days of usage, I have not had any dropped calls moreover, the calls have been clear. Handset volume is loud and is enhanced via an option in the “Settings” called “Hearing Aids”. The Titan’s microphone seems to pick up my voice loud and clear with no complaints from callers. With the HTC Titan getting about 4.4 Mbps down and 1.25 Mbps up the data connection has been a nice surprise. There is a benefit of the AT&amp;T HSPA+ network. Furthermore, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connect fast and are reliable.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>To summarize, the <a href="http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B0068PZQT6?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=Simple03b-20" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">HTC Titan</a> has been a super upgrade to my previous Windows Phone experience. I loved my Samsung Focus, but I’m now madly in love with my Titan. I’m amazed at the quality of this phone. While seemingly large, it feels very good in hand. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best Windows Phone device to date. HTC has really stepped up their game with the Titan. So much so, that it’s drawing the attention of Android tech writers as a solid competitor to the Google Nexus and iPhone 4S. So if you’re looking for your next Windows Phone device, tired of Androids fragmentation and spec rat race, disappointed with the same old iPhone, or you’re ready to get off the Blackberry ship that’s taking on water fast, then I recommend you give the Titan a hard look.</p>

</p><p>For people waiting around for the HTC Titan may be disturbed to know that you will be waiting a bit longer. We ordered the HTC Titan from AT&amp;T on Monday morning and have just now received an email that the 4.7 inch <a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/category/smartphones/windows-phone/" target="_blank">Windows Phone 7</a> device is now backordered. This goes back to reports that we were getting on Monday were readers <a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/did-htc-delay-shipments-of-the-htc-titan/" target="_blank">could not find the massive Titan</a> phone at their local retailers. I am not sure if they had a last minute issue or are demand for the HTC Titan higher than they expected. Whichever turns out to be true, these are issue Microsoft do not need. I hope that devices will make it out soon to the Windows Phone 7 fans that want them.</p>

</p><p>We have received word that readers are having trouble locating the HTC Titan <a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/category/smartphones/windows-phone/">Windows Phone 7</a> device at local AT&amp;T retail stores. After hearing about the difficulties, I decided to go to my local store and to my surprise; the Titan was not in stock. Furthermore, one of the associates at the store informed me that HTC pushed the retail shipment of Titan&#8217;s back for two weeks. We know some people were able to get hold of the new device but we are wondering if more people are running into the same situation that I am seeing.</p>
<p><span id="more-21123"></span></p>
<p>It seems ordering on the phone is a bit of a hassle too as AT&amp;T did not have the phone available in their inventory systems. It seems that purchasing online may be one of the only ways to order the phone as calling in to support did not work for me as well. After being transferred three times, I finally was told to order the HTC Titan via the online store. Finally, after going through three stores and three different AT&amp;T reps the online method of ordering was successful although I am watching the status to see if it actually ships today.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Let us know what your retail experience was below.</p>

</p><p>A few weeks back I was sitting in my office, where I normally have a very nice 4G signal, and all of the sudden I could not get a data connection whatsoever.  I went and grabbed my wife’s phone (we work in the same office and have the same phone) and she had a 4G signal and complete data coverage.  After several calls to <a href="http://www.t-mobile.com/?cm_mmc_o=Vzbp%20mwzygtCjCVAygtzlwCjCPyzEpCjCW%2f-">T-Mobile</a> to no avail, my old friend <a href="http://www.google.com/">Google</a> finally came to my rescue in the form of a secret Android developers code.  I’d like to take you through the process of how I was able, with just a few button presses, to restore my phone to its 4G glory.</p>
<p><span id="more-19294"></span></p>
<p>I found the code that I will be talking about at <a href="http://www.tmonews.com/2011/06/is-your-htc-sensation-4g-suffering-data-connectivity-issues-the-fix-is-easy/">Tmo-News</a> , but they originally came from a website called <a href="http://www.askvg.com/google-android-hidden-secret-codes/">Tweaking With Vishal</a>, and I will post his disclaimer as my own warning that this should only be tried at your own risk.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>DISCLAIMER:</strong> This information is intended for experienced users. It is not intended for basic users, hackers, or mobile thieves. Please do not try any of following methods if you are not familiar with mobile phones. We&#8217;ll not be responsible for the use or misuse of this information, including loss of data or hardware damage. So use it at your own risk.</p></blockquote>
<p>Good!  Now that we have that out of the way, we can can start to have some fun.  We will use the code that I am about to reveal to toggle the radios on and off in your phone to try and reset the data connection, because, as we all know, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2FB1P_Mn8">turning things off and on again</a> almost always works <img class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" style="border-style: none;" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/wlEmoticon-smile1.png" alt="Smile" /></p>
<p><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-53-09.jpg"><img style="padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-53-09_thumb.jpg" alt="2011-09-16_09-53-09" width="183" height="321" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-53-20.jpg"><img style="padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-53-20_thumb.jpg" alt="2011-09-16_09-53-20" width="181" height="319" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-53-37.jpg"><img style="padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-53-37_thumb.jpg" alt="2011-09-16_09-53-37" width="182" height="320" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>First things first, open up your dialer and type in “*#*#4636#*#*” without the quotation marks.  The second that you hit the last “*” the middle screenshot above will appear.  Tap “Phone information” and the rightmost screenshot above will appear.  Scroll down until you can see “Toggle Ciphering.”</p>
<p><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-54-55.jpg"><img style="padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-54-55_thumb.jpg" alt="2011-09-16_09-54-55" width="190" height="335" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-54-02.jpg"><img style="padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-54-02_thumb.jpg" alt="2011-09-16_09-54-02" width="189" height="333" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-54-23.jpg"><img style="padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" src="http://www.simplemobilereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011-09-16_09-54-23_thumb.jpg" alt="2011-09-16_09-54-23" width="188" height="332" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>It will say “Ciphering ON.”  Hit the “Toggle Ciphering” button so that it says “Ciphering OFF,” then hit “Turn off radio.”  You’ll notice a lovely “X” over your signal bars. Wait a moment until the button updates to say “Turn on radio,” then press that.  Once the radio is back on (you’ll know because the button has changed back to say “Turn off radio”) then you’ll hit the “Toggle Ciphering” button one final time so that it says “Ciphering ON” and you are all done.  Easy, right?</p>
<p>At this point you should quickly notice that you now have a signal and data should be freely flowing to your phone.  As soon as I tried this my 4G connection was back and T-Mobile was saved from yet another call from me.  I used this specifically for the <a href="http://wireless.amazon.com/HTC-Sensation-Android-Phone-T-Mobile/dp/B0053Z8XCO/ref=sh_br_ph_1?ie=UTF8&amp;transaction=INDIVIDUAL_NEW&amp;sr=1-1-entd&amp;qid=1316185339133">HTC Sensation 4G</a>, but these codes are supposed to work on all Android phones.  If you’re having any connectivity issues on your Android phone, this just might help you easily resolve them.</p>

</p><p>Another hot Windows Phone 7 device is on sale in Germany. The HTC 7 Pro is now on sale from O2 in Germany. The price of the phone is€29 down and 24 months of €22.50 or, a €599 flat fee. Now the significance of this is the fact that this phone is a CDMA version of Windows Phone 7. And for those not keeping score, this phone would work on Verizon and Sprint’s networks. So we are only left wondering when this will happen here in the US?</p>
