Rethink Bluetooth Headsets with the Jawbone Icon Hero

Jawbone Icon Hero

I stopped using bluetooth headsets about 5 years ago for several reasons. I was recently talking to Robb Dunewood about needing a new headset and he asked what I disliked about BT headsets. I went on my normal rant and he called me out. His point was valid considering I had not really used a BT headset in the last 5 years. I purchased the jawbone Icon Hero. Robb gave me the best endorsement of this product, this winter he was actively snow blowing while talking to me on his headset, and I could not hear the snow blower. [click to continue…]

Better Home Screens with HelixLauncher

Helix Launcher

Whether you are still running the old Android 2.0.1 or have upgraded to 2.1 on your Motorola Droid, you will have found that you are still stuck with just 3 home screens for your icons, unless you are using a replacement Launcher or Home replacement. There are many out there, like Home ++, or Panda Home, etc. I tried to use them all, but gave up because all of them took a performance toll and made my device less stable. I can put up with an occasional Force Close, but when it starts happening dozens of time a day, that’s it for me. So I have just been trying to cram everything into 3 screens. It helps to use folders, but unfortunately every time I messed around with another Launcher, it never included the folders, and I had to start over. If you want to see how I solved that issue, look at my post on FolderOrganizer (Manage Android Applications with ForlderOrganizer). [click to continue…]

DROID’s Poor Call Quality Forcing Me to Use Headsets

V-Moda Headset

Since the day I got my Motorola Droid I have listened to complaints about call quality from friends. I did verify that one of my issues was a faulty microphone which was resolved with a hardware swap. Recently, after switching back to the Droid from my Blackberry Storm I started hearing the same classic complaints. I purposely told no one about the switch to see if I would get any comments and it took less than 2 phone calls. [click to continue…]

Enhancing NitroDesk TouchDown for Exchange

Nitro Touchdown

As most of you should have read, Chris came up against the Exchange support wall today, on his new Nexus One device. And while the Exchange support is apparently slightly better on the Motorola Droid, it’s not that noticeable. For that reason, I recommend to anyone who needs to have Exchange support on Android that they move directly to TouchDown, an application built specifically for this purpose. Because Chris is such a good friend, I figured that I should share a few secrets with him about TouchDown, and Rod replied back immediately: “Don’t tell us, tell the blog!” So, let me share with you a few secrets about TouchDown. Twitter Acquires Tweetie

Twitter

Talk about crowning an official Twitter Client. In a blog post Evan Williams announced they have acquired Tweetie and iPhone Twitter client. The application will be renamed Twitter for iPhone and will be free vs $2.99

It appears an iPad version is in the works but no mention to the desktop Tweetie client. For Twitter this move appears to be about brand control. If I want a WordPress app I want one from WordPress and when you look for a Twitter client there needs to be one from Twitter on all major platforms.

Initial Review of the Apple iPad

Apple iPad

The first three hours of having an iPad it sat in a box and with such a busy day it was not until 7PM before I was actually able to touch and play with the device. I sat on the couch next to my six year old, he looked at the iPad and said, “That’s a big phone.” I could not help but laugh because it is similar to what most tech people have been saying over the last 3 months, it’s a big iPod Touch.

I am going to try to break this down, the good and bad, while explaining how this is like and dislike an iPod Touch/iPhone. [click to continue…]
