Yesterday was a big opening day at CES 2012 for AT&T with the announcement of many new 4G LTE devices. The awesome thing about these devices is the fact that they are both phones and tablets. Some of the LTE devices include two new Windows Phones the Lumia 900 and HTC Titan II. There were also a few Android phones the Samsung Exhilarate and the Pantech Element.

I recently acquired the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the first phone to come with Google’s new Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. I have been putting the phone through its paces, and thus far, speech-to-text really stands out. It is arguably the best speech-to-text system offered on a smartphone.
As good as speech-to-text is, voice dialing, on the other hand, is atrociously bad. What baffles me is how speech-to-text on the Galaxy Nexus can be so accurate and easy to use, yet, voice dialing be so abysmal. For two features that are seemingly related using them is like a virtual Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde.

So, an interesting thing happened last week: I changed phones, again! In early September, I upgraded from the Droid Thunderbolt to the Droid Bionic. After just one week of use I decided to move back to the Thunderbolt and give the Bionic to a son who was moving from a dumb phone to a smartphone. It wasn’t that the phone was BAD, it was just that it really wasn’t all that different from the Thunderbolt and why waste an upgrade? In early November, after waiting forever, I finally had choices: either the Droid RAZR or the HTC Rezound. I actually played with both and although either would have been fine, I chose the Rezound because of the outstanding sound quality. And then last Thursday, I saw the launch announcement for the Galaxy Nexus.

AT&T is making their push for a true 4G network as they rollout a 4G LTE service to rival the speeds Verizon customers have enjoyed for over a year. The LG Nitro HD is the third device in the AT&T lineup to support the super-fast LTE Network. The Nitro HD, known in other parts as the Optimus LTE, is a fantastic piece of hardware with a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 AH-IPS display, dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 1.3-megapixel front camera, and 8-megapixel-1080p rear camera. The biggest challenge for the LG Nitro will be the $250 price tag with a 2-year contract considering other LTE devices on AT&T can be purchased for under $200.
After a week of using my new HTC Titan, I decided to invest into a nice case. Although the Titan has a very solid build, the smooth metal body makes it susceptible to drops. During the first week, I had a couple of close calls.
After searching the Internet and only coming up with mostly pouches and cheap black gel cases, I decided to try the AT&T website. AT&T had a Case-Mate Tough Case for the Titan that wasn’t even listed on the Case-Mate website. The Case-Mate listed for $45 which is more than I wanted pay for a case, but the day I purchased it, there was a 35% discount. So I ended up paying $29.25 that day.
