RIM States Why Kik Messenger was Removed from App World

Kik Messenger

“RIM became aware of a number of issues and customer concerns regarding the Kik app and service and, following discussions with Kik, the app was removed from BlackBerry App World. RIM is actively reviewing the issues and potential resolutions, and is also continuing its discussions with Kik.”

When I initially installed Kik the one issue I had was how my contact list was used to tell me about other Kik users. A larger concern was if Kik was using the messaging app to harvest my contact list. There is no available setting in Kik to block the Facebook-like friend suggestion feature that uses your contact list. I have to hope RIM removed Kik based on those customer concerns and not the rapid growth of a BlackBerry Messenger competitor. BBM is one of those features that keep RIM users loyal and Kik is a serious challenge to RIM.

Maybe RIM is concerned about something around degraded performance due to Kik. Regardless of RIM’s concerns they need to clearly explain them because this looks like an attempt to slow the competition. While Kik is not a feature-for-feature knock off of BBM, it is good enough. Maybe it really is a Kik issue…Maybe. Are you using Kik?

Evernote for BlackBerry

BlackBerry just added the latest version (3.0.271) of Evernote to BlackBerry AppWorld. This is an important update for Evernote because they’ve built in a number of improvements that allow them to offer Evernote for BlackBerry on more carriers, in more regions worldwide than ever before. It is true that this is the older interface, but you can at least get started with Evernote on Blackberry. Many upgrades yet to come.

Starting today, if your BlackBerry can get to AppWorld, then you can get Evernote. Be sure that your BlackBerry runs one of the following operating systems: 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 5.0, 6.0. This includes most of the popular BlackBerry devices currently on the market such as the Curve, Torch, Style, Storm, and many others. [click to continue…]

Amazon Penny Deals: BlackBerry Torch For 1 Penny

BlackBerry Torch

It was a matter of time before the BlackBerry Torch found it way to Amazon’s 1¢ bin. If you are doing early holiday shopping for a BlackBerry user a Torch for 1¢ is an excellent gift. This requires a 2 year contract to get the deal, but if you go to a AT&T store you going to drop $99 for the same device with a 2 year contract.

I am a classic Amazon Penny phone shopper as you can find great phones for great deals.  I highly suggest checking out what they have to offer. The Torch is running RIM lates BlackBerry OS 6.

Tether for BlackBerry now just $29.95

Tether for BlackBerry

It looks like Tether for BlackBerry, an application which allows your BlackBerry device to act as a wireless broadband modem for your laptop, has undergone a pretty significant price drop.  The old price of $49.95 has been slashed 40% to 29.95.  This is a pretty good deal for BlackBerry users because there aren’t a lot of options for using your BlackBerry to Tether beyond paying a monthly fee to your carrier…

Screensot

If you are a BlackBerry user and have the need to take screenshots from time to time, I would highly recommend using Screenshot. I started using a free app called Capture It which is a great app, but Screenshot takes it to a whole new level and for only 99¢.

Leaked! BlackBerry 6 For The BlackBerry Bold 9700

BlackBerry 6 Logo

It would appear that there is finally a leaked version of the BlackBerry 6 OS available for the BlackBerry Bold 9700.  With BlackBerry 6 for the BlackBerry Bold 9650, having come out weeks ago, we were beginning to wonder what the hold up was on the 9700.

If you decide to give BlackBerry 6 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 a run through, be sure to create a good backup of your device before you install.  Leaked BlackBerry operating systems are unsupported, so, make sure that you know what you are doing before you try to install.

Download BlackBerry 6 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 via one of the following links:

Leaked OS links don’t stay viable for long, so, you may want to download sooner rather than later even if you don’t install.

Use a BlackBerry to Remotely Manage your Mac

by Rod on November 1, 2010 · 0 comments

Remote Buddy

In 2005, after a little research, I decided to use a variety of programs (Remote Buddy, DVDPedia, HandBreak, and MacTheRipper) to turn my Mac Mini into a Media Center PC. While some of these programs have been replaced over time, others have advanced enough to make my Media Center experience even better. Initially, Remote Buddy only allowed me to use the Apple Remote to access a wider variety of features and programs on my Mac Mini. Then, after the iPhone became available, Remote Buddy released an AJAX web interface to control your Mac vs. needing an IR remote. Imagine my shock when I navigated my BlackBerry Bold 9650 to the AJAX remote web page and realized that, minus a couple minor features, the browser was sufficient to control my Media Center experience. BlackBerry Style is Officially Available at Sprint

BlackBerry Style

The BlackBerry Style went on sale today at Sprint stores. The BlackBerry Style is the second device officially running BlackBerry 6. I am rather excited to see one of these devices in the wild. Sprint is selling these devices for $99 with a 2 year contract, which is insanly good considering it is a new device.  Not as good a the 1¢ offer for the BlackBerry Curve  3G on all the major US carriers. I am not a fan of the BlackBerry Style or flip phones, but lets see how long it takes to become a free phone via Amazon.
