Starting today iPhone and BlackBerry users nation wide can pay for the cup of joe at Starbucks via Starbucks mobile payment app. An android app has yet to be released but is is suppose to be in the works. The Program was piloted in several major cities and at Target stores but not all 6,800 company stores will start accepting mobile payments.
The mobile payment in Starbucks works much like mobile airline tickets or Cardstar, just a basic 2-D scanner vs NFC (near filed communication). I had troubles with Starbucks link for BlackBerry devices but below is a functional link.

Shocking, RIM is finally listening to people and puting a decent processor in future BlackBerry’s. Well if you believe the leaked specs on the BlackBerry Torch 2 you will notice they are going to double the processor speed. The one thing Robb complained about was how under powered the BlackBerry Torch 1 felt. The device is not suppose to be available until Q3 2011 so hopefully the specs still look impressive in the future. [click to continue…]
If you are a Xobni user you will be happy there is a new update to verion 2.0.11 and it adds a host of new functionality targeted at BlackBerry OS 6. Additionally they have created a free version of the contact management software which is limited to 3 compose screen lookups per day and is missing some of the newly added features. I think the free version is much better than a trial as after 2 weeks I could hardly know if Xobni was worth purchasing.
If you are willing to spend $1.99 you can get Xobni Pro for a great deal currently. You can download the Xobni Update here. [click to continue…]
We have already started the debate weather or not Android sales will be but by a Verizon iPhone. We all vary in our opinions. One thing that I am pretty sure of is RIM and their BlackBerrys will be the biggest losers in all of this. Android is still growing and taking over all kinds of sales numbers. Even if the Verizon iPhone is able to impact it’s growth I don’t think it will be enough to help BlackBerry. Windows Phone 7 still new and there is no hatred yet. Therefore it can can fly under the radar while all of tis shakes out. Plus it is a way cooler interface than that of BlackBerry.

The Vitrue 100 top social brands of 2010 has come out and the BlackBerry, believe it or not, has moved up to the number 2 spot on the list following just the iPhone which has top the list of each of the three years of its existence. The BlackBerry moved up 13 spots from is position last year which is pretty impressive seeing how the BlackBerry is seen as a pretty outdated device compared to its competitors.

I have been keeping an eye on the BlackBerry Playbook. The device seemed to be the only tablet that interested me. Well at least to the point I was considering buying one. Unfortunately, this latest information has just made me change my mind. There is a component called the BlackBerry Bridge that allows the Playbook to connect to your BlackBerry. Once Connected you can use BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Email and the BlackBerry Calendar. I was reading a review of the BlackBerry Bridge, when I stumbled across this setback. Joshua from bgr.com said
For the time being, Bridge will provide the PlayBook with all of its email, calendar, and BBM functionality — there are no stand-alone applications on the device. You read that correctly: without a BlackBerry on hand, you won’t be able to access any of your BlackBerry-specific messaging software

The insanely popular cross platform instant messing client, Kik Messenger, has just crossed the 3 million users mark even though the app has been suspended on the BlackBerry and the company behind Kik Messenger, Kik Interactive, sued for patent infringement by BlackBerry maker Research in Motion.
Kik chief executive Ted Livingston (a former RIM employee) told us (VentureBeat) that the application is still finding an audience on iPhones, iPods, and Android devices — it now has 3 million registered users. That’s really impressive for a service that launched less than three months ago.
I don’t know that I would recommend Kik Messenger at this point because of Kik Interactive’s looming legal issues, but, Kik is probably the closest thing to BBM running on the iPhone and Android devices and 3 million users in 3 months is pretty impressive…
I am not going to say the Built for BlackBerry program RIM has just launched is a rip off of Apple’s Made for iPhone program, I will let you be the judge of that. Regardless you BlackBerry accessories may soon carry an official RIM logo to promote certified accessories. Companies like Otterbox, Speck, Case-Mate will get technical, strategic and marketing support from RIM. [click to continue…]
