Over this past weeked, LiveProfile, a cross platform mobile IM client with support for Android and iOS, was released for the BlackBerry. LiveProfile for BlackBerry is still in beta, and doesn’t support all the features as its Android and iOS cousins, but does support the BlackBerry Messenger like features of delivered message and read message notifications as well as an indicator of if a contact is typing a reply to a message that you’ve sent to them.
LiveProfile for BlackBerry is a free download and you can pick it up OTA by heading to http://liveprofile.com/get. Android and iOS users can pick up LiveProfile in their respective application storefronts…

Brandon Watson is likely the most passionate person about Windows Phone 7, and that passion is infectious and growing the developer community. Brandon is responsible for the developer experience at Microsoft and his passion for the product, technology, and developers are becoming the face of Windows Phone.
It is not news the Microsoft provides developers with the best tools to build powerful applications; they have been doing this for two decades. Microsoft recently performed an about, face walking way for 10+ years of Windows Mobile/Pocket PC and starting new with Windows Phone. Brandon is fronting the charge to foster that developer community even at the expense of Research in Motion (RIM).

Word on the street, according to BGR sources, is that Research in Motion is bringing BlackBerry Messenger, arguably the best and most beloved mobile IM client of all time, to both Android and iOS. Rovio, maker of the insanely popular game Angry Birds, has yet to say whether or not they are going to release a version of Angry Birds for the BlackBerry. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait on Rovio to create Angry Birds for BlackBerry to get your fill of shooting farm animals from a sling shot. BlackBerry app developer Smarter Apps has recently released Angry Farm, an Angry Birds clone for the BlackBerry, and, from the looks of it, Angry Farm is darn near as engaging as the original.

Is RIM considering offering a BlackBerry Curve with a large touch screen display, but missing the flagship RIM keyboard. The device above is codenamed mailbu and would likely be the BlackBerry Curve Touch scheduled for late 2011 early 2012. I would suspect RIM will offer a variety of options like traditional Curve, Curve with touch screen and keyboard, and the new full touch screen device. [click to continue…]
Blackberry has been taking a lot of lumps for the last year. And it seems that the bad news is still coming. A little while ago we wrote about Dell telling their employees to trade in their BlackBerry phones for their Windows Phone 7 device the Venue Pro. Now it is being reported that Deutsche Bank is dropping BlackBerry for the iPhone. In order to secure email on the iPhone, the bank used Good Technology’s secure email app. Deutsche Bank was able to have AES 192-encrypted email and calendar data sent to their employees. It has been long understood that RIM has a great stronghold on enterprise sales. But, if events like these keep happening that dominance will not last very long.

If RIM is truly considering letting Android applications run on QNX powered BlackBerry Devices this may be a trump card for both RIM and Google. RIM has publicly stated they want to get the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) running on the playbook for legacy app compatibility.
RIM is considered using the Dalvik JVM, which is the same JVM as Android. This would mean an application built for Android would work on BlackBerry devices powered by QNX. Without Google Approval they could not use the Android Market but submitting the same code to two or three app stores is not a huge deal. Amazon has already announced an Android App store so developers will participate in multiple app stores with code written once. Hopefully Google and RIM would reach a deal as the combination of RIM and Google would be one development platform for well over 50% of the smartphone market.
