Windows Mobile has HandsFree Voice Commands done right

One of the most underutilized features on Windows Mobile is Voice Command. In fact, the Android, iPhone, and Blackberry fans need to recognize the voice commands in Windows Mobile are superior to these platforms in all ways. Voice control technology has been around for a long time but really is not talked about much. It is a shame, because it is such an integral part of my life. I use voice control daily in my Chevy Avalanche with OnStar.

In March of 2009 a company called Bump Technologies jumped on the scenes with an application called bump. The concept is that you bump two smartphones together and each is then asked what contact info, photos, files, etc. they want to share with each other. [click to continue…]

PointUI and FingerKeyboard Gives an Old Phone A New Look

This Christmas my stepson was added to my phone plan with AT&T. He will be on a probation period to start off with. That probation period includes using my HTC Wizard otherwise known as the Cingular 8125. Yes, that is an old Windows Mobile Phone but it still works. Sometimes we expect everyone to get the latest greatest phone but not everyone can afford to get the Tilt 2. So untill he can he is stuck. Now this phone was great in its time but of course by today’s standard…… no chance. Especially for a freshman in college. So I set out to make the Wizard a bit better. To my suprise, with very little effort I made it a lot better!

Apple Suggest 3 Billion Downloads

3 billion downloads is an impressive number. I take nothing away from Apple who redefined what an App Store means. But I have to ask, what constitutes a download? I suspect most people will think what a stupid question, but remember [click to continue…]

Desktop Password Managers on Mobile

$1 is not a lot of money. In fact $1 per month for something I would use daily on multiple devices is not much to ask. LastPass provides password management cross platform and cross devices. Today, I use 1Password and Roboform for password management. 1Password is restricted to Apple’s platforms (Mac and iPhone). Roboform is restricted to Windows on the desktop (for now I am ignoring the Online option) but runs on multiple mobile platforms such as Windows Phone, Blackberry, Palm, Symbian, and iPhone.

For all the Windows Mobile folks there is the Windows Market Place for Mobile to get Apps for your phone. Before Windows Market Place for Mobile existed there was Handango, and currently they are extending their Year end blowout sale. So if you were hesitant about getting something from them maybe this will put you over the top. Happy New Year.

Microsoft is making it very hard to be a Windows Mobile Proponent.

What happened guys? You used to be beautiful. This is a painful article for me to type but one that needs to be done. I was recently complaining that part of the reason that people have this bad view of Windows Mobile is the fact that developers are abandoning it. For example when the Slingbox first came out I jumped all over it. I was the first in my circle to get one. Add in the fact that SlingMedia came up with a client for Windows Mobile and you are talking about a killer gadget. The interface for the time was fine nothing different than any other Windows Mobile app. But then, enter in the Sling Player Mobile app for the iPhone.

Some Smartphone Honesty.

Today I read another article telling us that Microsoft blew the Smartphone market and apple is winning it. I don’t mind reading these articles but I wish someone would have an original thought on the subject. The article stated that they had the ability to take control but let Apple come in and create a phone geared to the consumer vs. the enterprise. They continued to read about the brilliance of Apple in the design of the iPhone. I question whether Apple was really that brilliant.

How to Travel Stress Free

by Brent on December 29, 2009 · 6 comments

Like others, I find myself traveling nearly every week for work. If you are like me, it all starts to blur together and occasionally I have an epic fail! A few weeks ago, I left a client site just a little bit short on time to make my flight to yet another city and another client. Imagine my shock when I arrived to check-in and found that my flight had already boarded and was ready to go. I had confused the departure time due to timezone issues, as well as not paying attention. At that moment, I decided I had better take control or I would experience the same again and again.

Tailgating directions from my iPhone

by Rod on December 28, 2009 · 7 comments

by Rod on December 28, 2009 · 7 comments

This entire football season long has been horrific as I watched the Redskins lose home game after home game, however, the one thing that saved the season was tailgating with good friends. We often had many friends swing by our tailgate to hang out and grab some food. One common issue was trying to understand where we were located. [click to continue…]
