If there is, anything on Android that works well it is navigation. Google Maps is awesome on Android and it seems they just keep making it better. A feature that is available on advanced GPS devices is traffic routing. This feature considers traffic congestion when mapping a route.

With all of us beating the door with hammers for new OS releases, it’s always a great cautionary tale to remember that not all new versions are completely bug free. Such appears to be the case with the release of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) on the Nexus One. Apparently, for many people, it has broken Google Voice. If you don’t use it, no big deal. But if you do, help! A few hardy souls have found a work-around that involves uninstalling the app, loading an earlier version, and then upgrading to the latest through the Android Market in the usual fashion. Or, you can just sit around and wait for Google to release a fix. Your choice. And good luck with that.

We see a lot of organizations lately trying to throw their hat in the ring with new ways to consume what traditionally was print media. I have a hard time paying exorbitant fees to get electronically what I can get for much less in print. And I hate print. USA Today has just launched an app that takes a slightly different tack. You get everything that you would expect in the daily edition of the newspaper, but because it is target at the always-on Motorola XOOM, it will update 24 x 7 with the latest news as it happens. Looks interesting, but I will have to see what the cost is. Could be very enticing if the price is right.. [click to continue…]
Samgung Galaxy S users, which includes the Captivate for AT&T, have been long waiting for the Android 2.2 Froyo update. The Epic 4G just got it a short while ago, and now the Captivate is getting it, too. Nobody is quite sure what the hang-up has been, but it looks like it is starting to break for some phones. Get ready for Amazon Instant Video after your update

No, I didn’t misspell hoopla. Hooopla is a new Android app for hyper-local activities. Of course, this will have to catch on with folks, because it will live and die by how relevant and up to date events are, but given the current attitude of frenzy, I can see this one probably making it.
What’s fun to do today? Flag Football? Poker tournament? Happy Hour? Live Music? House Party?
Introducing Hooopla, an app that informs you of all the fun events and activities currently going on around you!!
Basketball Games, Softball Games, Potlucks, Common Interest Meetings, Snowball Fights, you name it! If its local and currently going on, you’ll know about using Hooopla!!
You can also add your own events and activities and promote through Hooopla to have others join in on the fun by simply utilizing your event/activity’s fun feed.

Evernote for Android just updated to version 2.6. Interestingly enough, what was once the red-headed step-child app now appears to be leading the way. Once Evernote became available on iOS, it seemed that all new features were introduced there first. However, recently, is seems that Android has taken the position of lead platform. Perhaps it is just a matter of timing, but I find the coincidence interesting nonetheless.
( Don’t forget you can install apps to your SDCard! )

One of my favorite and most used Android applications, Google Reader for Android, has been updated with several new features including home screen widgets.
Google Reader for Android widgets come in two flavors. The first is an Unread widget which simply shows the number of undread items categorized by feeds, labels, a person that you follow, or by your entire Google Reader account. The second type of widget is a News Ticker that will show you the most recent item from any of those streams mentioned previously.
