OK, we are a week into the HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon Wireless, the first Verizon 4G LTE smartphone and the speed is glorious indeed! This morning a colleague, Tim, pinged to say that he had the device and loved it, but that he was struggling to get more than 4-5 hours of battery, even after conducting a bunch of other battery saving measures. This is probably the most common complaint I have heard about this phone. For me personally, I regularly get 9+ hours of use on the phone and I run it 4G all the time. Let me share with you a couple of things that I regularly do to improve the battery life of any Android phone.

There’s a coding house out there called “Notification” that makes a great little app simply titled Craigslist Notification. It’s a great app that brings much needed functionality to a very ugly and borderline useless website called … wait for it … www.craigslist.org.
Craigslist is where old computer hardware and couches go to die, or live a new life as front porch furniture or boat anchor. Where people find other people for relationships, hook-ups, or just platonic friendship. It’s a place where you can find a new barber, a like-new blender, or a very old pickup truck that you can use to haul that giant peach pie to your nephew’s bar mitzvah. Craigslist Notification has it all, and now there is a way to See all that Craigslist has to offer from anywhere with your Android Phone.

In case you have been underground for an extended period of time or perhaps off-planet, you might not know that today is the day that the first LTE-supported smartphone is available on Verizon. You can pick it up at your local Verizon Wireless store and at Best Buy (well, if you are lucky and they still have it in stock). I am flying today and with any luck will be able to pick mine up this afternoon.

I have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for a tablet to emerge that I believe would make me happy. I like the portability of Android with the workmanship of Windows. ViewSonic has a created a device that has both. Since the untimely demise of my HP Netbook, I figured I would just wait for some sort of Windows tablet. My plan is to get a device now so that I can install Windows 8 when the first build becomes available. Step one would be to get a tablet capable of running windows and the ViewPad 10 is that device.
