Several days ago Verizon announced that they would be carrying the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, one of the hottest upcoming Android devices, and the first to be released with Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. Up until that point, speculation ran rampant about where the Nexus would land. In the absence of any solid answer from other US carriers, hope still remained, since the device had already been announced for carriers in other countries. Last night, however, the hopes of many were dashed, as Verizon’s sign up page contained the underlying banner ad, stating Verizon exclusivity.

Nokia is notorious for its disdain of nearly anyone else beside themselves, so I was quite surprised when I heard that they would be releasing a version of their Nokia Maps for Android and iOS devices running HTML 5. My first thought was, “Who cares? I love my Google Maps.” Nokia Maps can do all of the same things that Google Maps can, but until recently, they only offered driving directions. Nokia finally got with the times and now offers walking directions, as well, and even included public transportation directions and Points of Interest(POI) information as well. The POI’s and public transport stuff is pretty cool, but I still wasn’t interested…that is, until I heard their coup de grace; offline maps!

I have been running the Cyanogen 7.1 Android ROM on my HP TouchPad for about 4 days. While it is great for an Alpha build, there is no doubt that this is an Alpha build. This is not an insult, rather a reality of what the development group has communicated. WebOS is actually a nice platform to interact with. I loved the keyboard and every element RIM stole and added to the PlayBook. That said, given HP has waived the white flag so early in the game, it is not likely that any developers will build for WebOS. I purchased the TouchPad with the intentions of installing Windows 8 and/or Android, so this conclusion was foreseen.

One of the things that most excited me about Android was the thought that my phone could be my personal, portable, media/entertainment hub with my games, movies, and music all at the ready. If you’re like me, though, you’re likely very disappointed with Google’s native video and music players. After much searching, however, I’m pleased to show you what I feel is the best player for watching videos on Android; Moboplayer!

Almost a year and a half ago Brent wrote a post about how to read eBooks on your Android device. Considering many people want to read ebooks on their Android devices, I decided that today would be a great time to update everyone on all of the great new options that are available for reading eBooks on your Android devices.
eBooks have been steadily growing in popularity over the past few years. They are distributed instantaneously, are usually cheaper since there is no cost for materials, require almost no physical space to store, and many, many other things. Oh, did I mention that there are free eBooks? Yeah, that’s not a bad thing, either
Thankfully for all of us, reading eBooks has never been easier. I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite options, everyone of which will work on any Android phone or tablet.
