The last app that I have been waiting for for Android has released today. I can now safely say that if push came to shove I could remain on the Android platform. That would have to be one ridiculous push but hey anything is possible. I wrote a post a few months back when the app was updated for Windows Phone. I love my Slingbox. But I really like what Sling Media has done with the UI. For starters you must have a Slingbox.

Dell HTC Aria Free with a New AT&T Contract

Dell Aria

What in the heck is wrong with the Dell Aria.  A brand new released smartphone phone for free with a contract.  Come on there has to be a catch.  It has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 384MB RAM, and 5 megapixel camera. The reviews on the unit have not been overly glowing, but I don’t expect AT&T to allow a worthy competitor to the iPhone on their network.  Free is Free, I am sticking with Verizon

Motorola Droid X

Motorola has their page on the Droid X now Verizon has their page.  The technical specs are what we have already learned, 4.3 inch screen, 720 p HDMI output, and 854 x 480 display.  We will have to wait until the Jun 23 event for the official release date.  I know Brent is hoping to get this device sooner rather than later.

Motorola Gives the Droid X a Registration Page

Droid X

The Droid X is getting a registration page, and all hopes of a June 23rd release are ended.   On the most recent podcast episode we wondered if this device would go after the tablet market and it appears the Droid X will be a worthy hybrid device.  Slightly large as a phone, but well sized for mobile video and web browsing.  I think it pushes the upper limits of how big a phone can be but the market will speak.  Hopefully the Freedom Pro Bluetooth Keyboard will pair as well with this device as it does with the Motorola Droid.

Register for updates on the Motorola Droid X

A Star is Born: Motorola Droid 2 First Video

The guys at Android and Me got hands on video of the original Droid and Droid 2.  There appears to be no ground breaking information in the video.  Obviously with the removal of the D-Pad the keyboard is larger and keys are easier to press.  I personally hope to see Motorola bring a front facing camera to market.  The soft button option has changed to Moto Blur, but outside of that we have a 3.7 inch,5 megapixel camera, 1 Ghx Processor, 512 MB RAM, and same PowerVR SGX530 graphics processor.

50% of Android Devices Run Android 2.1

Android Market by Version

With Android 2.1 now being on 50% of all Android devices this should mark a shift in what version developers build their apps to support.  This shift also highlights that users are updating their mobile operating systems at a rather high rate considering only 2 weeks ago 2.1 was 45.1% of the market.  While half the Android users are still running 1.5 or 1.6 it would be interesting to know the percent of those devices have an available update.  It would be interesting to see the speed at which users upgrade on Android compared to the iPhone.  Specifically, I want to know if users with OTA updates upgrade their mobile OS faster than users that need to connect to a computer to update.  You don’t hear much talk about the variety of iPhone OS version running on devices, it would be a rather interesting thing to study..

Swype Keyboard Beta Available for Android

Post image for Swype Keyboard Beta Available for Android

I don’t know if you saw the guy set the text message record on a Windows Phone, but it was a really cool video. The reason why it was cool is because he was using a new keyboard named Swype. Essentially instead of tapping each key to spell a word you just slide your finger from letter to letter. I am sure everyone wanted to try this out and now it is Android users turn.

Droid Invite

OH HECK YES!  I am not saying Verizon selected June 23rd because the iPhone releases on the 24th, but you have to wonder.  I LOVE IT!  Droid 2 or Droid X or both Google, Motorola, Adobe, and Verizon are on stage in NY on the 23rd to keep Android in the spotlight.

Automatic Updating in Android 2.1 are Froyolicious

Automatic Update

I know I am not the only user that has felt that the number of mobile application updates had gotten out of control. I personally love that developers are constantly making applications better, but the mobile operating system (Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Symbian, WebOS, or Windows Phone) need to provide a way to address the overwhelming feeling of an endless sea of application updates. Garminfone Years Late to Market

by Rod on June 14, 2010 · 0 comments

by Rod on June 14, 2010 · 0 comments

There was a time years ago that I wanted the Garmin Nuvi phone.  Then the iPhone was released; then Android was released; BlackBerry announced OS6, and Microsoft announced Windows Phone, needless to say Garmin is late to market.  There maybe some that want the Garminfone, but I am no longer in the group.  Did I mention it si running Android 1.6.  On the positive side it does look like a nice phone, small, great camera, and easy to navigate user interface this is what makes Garmin navigation rock solid.
