ESPN Radio App Available for Android

ESPN Radio

I was almost shocked to hear ESPN Radio talk about buying the app from the Android Market. Then it hit me they said buy not download, so for starters the app costs $4.99. The ESPN Radio app is only $2.99 in the iTunes store so I wonder why the price increase on Android. I am an ESPN fan but with so many free ESPN podcasts you can subscribe to; access to ESPN Radio shows via web streaming; and access fo ESPN Shows via the XM/Sirius radio or Android App I cannot find a reason to pay more. SpriteBackup

If you have spent any time at all on other Smartphone platforms than Android, you are probably already familiar with Sprite Backup. They have been around some 8 years and I first started using them on Windows Mobile (or Pocket PC, as it was called way back then). They have an outstanding offering for Android platforms (Android 1.5+ and Languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, plus 44 more). You can pick it up in the Market for $4.99. So, what’s so special about Sprite Backup? [click to continue…]

New HTC Evo Rooting Process

HTC Evo 4G

A security vulnerability in the Flash Lite build on the HTC Evo allows you to gain root access again, despite recent OTA that fixed the last security hole.  You have to give credit where credit is due as it relates to these hacks.  First you have to go to Adobe flash web settings page and make adjustments to your local Flash settings to allow the script to work so many by default Flash is secure.  While that is not the end of the rooting process after several additional steps you have root access and that is where the fun starts.

Post image for Google Pushing Update to Android 2.2

Earlier I wrote about the new FROYO update not being that big a deal. Then what happens, my phone gets pushed another update. The first 2.2 update was FRF85 which I had to install manually. The current update I got over-the-air. this update is FRF91. I assume other folks are getting this update too, There is a a link so if you want to update yourself then knock yourself out. I didn’t notice anything different after the update but engadget.com is saying that it’s just a security update.

Google Android

I have been using Android for about 9 months now and despite all the good features the phone can offer, there are still some things that drive me crazy. While the issues are not overwhelming, they are a constant annoyance as you navigate and use the device. Like sand in the crotch of your bathing suit, these are my annoyances with the Android OS. Post image for Nexus One Android 2.2 Update is No Big Deal

Last night I finally updated my Nexus One to Android 2.2. We have been hearing about this new version for quite some time. The Codename was FROYO which stood for Frozen Yogurt. There were reports that this version was being pushed over the air this week but I never got it. So I took matters into my own hand and did it myself. You can do the same if you want. I have to say, so far, I am underwhelmed by the update.

Android Users Should Check if Google Latitude is Tracking Your Location

Google Latitude

All Android phones come with a built-in LoJack feature called Google Latitude.  It is a rather easy feature to enable and not exactly obvious that you have enabled it.  Additionally, Google Latitude is not as easy to disable as it is to enable, but I suspect that is by design.  For those not aware Google Latitude is a location-aware mobile app that allows your mobile phone to track your location.  Your location data is sent to Google then overlayed on a Google Map.  Google Latitude is a powerful app for sharing location with friends but can be accidentally enabled with a single click on Android phones.

If you have not received the OTA or just lack the patiences to wait consider doing the manual install. Android 2.2 FRF85 directly from Google. Instructions after the break. [click to continue…]

Super Mario Live Wallpaper for Android 2.1 or Higher

Mario Android Wallpaper

I have not been a fan of Android’s Live wallpaper dues to the impact on battery performance, but this Super Mario game as wallpaper is rather interesting. To use the live wallpaper you need to be running Android 2.1 or higher. There are settings that allow you to adjust the game levels. If nothing else this will be great entertainment for my kids.
